Wow, everyone, thank you so much for all of the kind words! And I apologize for not paying closer attention to the pictures matching up lighting-wise. I realized, after I finished of course, that I didn't even take a before picture and had to use one from my cloudy move-in day.

ecs2, I totally agree about the prep work being intimidating, the hardest part for me was cleaning the hardware which had been neglected for decades and was so filthy. These were the steps I took.

1. Clean, clean, cleaned the faces of the cabinets and the hardware with soapy water and then an ammonia/water mixture in a spray bottle. I let them dry for a day.

2. Lightly hand-sanded all doors, faces, and the hardware pieces, wiped them down with a damp cloth. I totally short-cutted this because I hate sanding, and I think it turned out fine :)

3. One thick coat of Zinsser primer on everything.

4. Two coats of Benjamin Moore Advance Satin, (asphalt grey below, and cloud white above) which is an amazing finish, not too shiny and levels out really well.

5. Spray painted the hardware with a Rustoleum metal finish, I think in dark nickel?

6. Put it all back together :)

Besides the cleaning, it really did take just a weekend, even with drying time, but I do live in Denver where everything dries quickly. Hope this helps! Good luck!
