Definitely lose the shrubs in front! Then go for a warm yellow and add a punch with a tangerine front door. Or do a light (icy) blue with a tangerine front door, white trim and some tangerine accents on the eaves! Have fun with it!!!

What Color Would You Paint this House?

Great idea! But our house of barely 1,200 very charming and awkward sq ft is committed to a certain layout. Our living room is an especially long, awkward, narrow space with a fireplace in the center and an entryway at either end, so we are very limited in how we can arrange our furniture in order to keep the traffic flow. We also have two rapidly growing boys who need room to move around, occasionally wrestle, etc. While there are certainly other options to arrange our furniture, they're few and far between, and none of them work for us as a family--no matter how nice they might be from a design standpoint. It just means I have more fun switching up things like rugs and throw pillows. :)

Yellow walls. Behr's "corn silk" works in a lot of different light (some yellows turn greenish or orangey in certain light). I've used it in two different rooms in two houses so far, and it's been nothing short of a total win. Right now it is in my dining room, which has french doors with a similar finish to your cabinets. It really warms up the room, and the doors suddenly look LOVELY. Replace all the pulls with something somewhat rustic and earthy. Search etsy.com for vintage pulls, or just go to Home Depot and get something new. Go with a warm feeling, not cools. I agree that blues and other cools will make the cabinets stand out more. And consider replacing the fan with one that is white or bronze. Ideally white, so the eye isn't drawn to it. It will make the kitchen seem higher. And maybe you can put in some lighting around the tops of the cabinets, so it reflects up to the ceiling, drawing the gaze up--and away from the cabinets. If you have a big blank wall in the kitchen, consider finding a vintage poster you like and framing it--a poster ideally with some yellows, greens, oranges, etc.

I'm all about the $10 fluffy bathmats from TJ Maxx or Home Goods. I also frequently throw a towel over them, anyway, since most bathmats aren't very absorbent. That usually extends the life them, too.

Love it! My husband and I have something similar planned for our kitchen next month. What product was used to dye the grout on the floor? We have this terrible light grey tile (and two boys, and three dogs), and the grout is awful. No matter what, we can't seem to keep it clean OR sealed. Any tips? Thanks!!!

I think it's adorable--but maybe more of a feeder or perch than real shelter. And that Camus quote has long been one of my absolute favorites. <3
