All of my friends and family that have had a second child have had showers as well. I believe its up to whomever is willing to throw the shower. I'm sure your friend received all the ordinary baby gifts for her first and diapers are what she know she'll really need. Just don't go if you're too morally against it.

what i would do is:

a. get rid of the coffee table and just have light colored side tables (open rooms help lighten)

b. look into putting a tan or light colored sofa cover

c. either way i think mint, or any light pastel color would lighten up. I personally think a white slipcover with light yellow or light blue walls. then you can accessorize with some bright pillows or decor.

I use plastic liners. They repel the water and keep shower curtains nice and fresh. Also they're very cheap, I think the one's I purchase are like $3 each. I have no problem with the smell of mine, just use them a few times and the smell should fade.

I am in a situation a lot like you. What I am going to do is put white roller blinds on each window then cover them with bright red sheer curtains that fall to the floor. The rest of my house is neutral so it will add a pop of color.

I really wouldn't paint the cabinets dark, it would just make the kitchen bland and uninviting. I would paint them white and put modern hardware on them. That's what I have done with mine and its a country/modern type feel. Get rid of the blinds and paint the kitchen a cool toned color. Also clear the counter tops and that will make it feel larger and more modern. Your kitchen is very open so that will work in your favor also. Good luck!
