I'm no authority, but I think you'd be better off dyeing your curtains rather than trying to paint them. My experience is that painted fabric looks really shiny and is stiff - your curtains might not hang right after you painted them. If you were going to do just a stencil or design then... maybe? As I said, I'm no expert, but painting a bunch of curtains would be pretty time consuming and the end result is iffy.

I tried this with mixed results. The chair is usable - which is an improvement - but it's definitely a stop gap measure until I can afford reupholstery. The fabric I started with was really trashed - soiled and pilly - so that probably contributed to a less-than-awesome end result. I've got some pictures and info. over here:

I wouldn't paint a big upholstered piece, but think it would be great (cleanable, inexpensive and completely customizable) for outdoor furniture or even dining chair seats.

Oh I love that magnetite color; what a gorgeous shade of greeny-gray. I just painted my dining room a dark blue - Nova in Miller Paint's Evolution line - and I love it! There are some pics over here if you'd like to see - http://redhousewest.com/2014/06/30/katies-house-deep-blue-walls-in-the-dining-room/

This is very lovely and I especially like the placement of the Bertoia chairs in front of the large window. That window and view are so lovely and the chairs just disappear in front of it - well chosen and well placed!

Man, I love reading these stories! Makes me want to head to the thrift stores right now. Here's another one to share - About a month and a half ago I found a sad looking Saarinen tulip chair for $5 at a garage sale. I've cleaned it up, and am saving for when I can get it redone.

So cool! I can picture a wall of these in a spare, Scandinavian style room. I've been experimenting with replicating encaustic-type tiles recently, and considered using plywood for the backing. I just DIYd this concrete backsplash with a repeating pattern for our laundry room and I'm liking how it turned out: http://redhousewest.com/2014/05/21/katies-house-progress-in-the-laundry-room-and-a-diy-concrete-backsplash/

I found three HW Klein for Bramin dining chairs for $5.99 each at the local thrift store. They're in great condition (though I'll need to reupholster the seats) and so beautiful!
