@annalea: cross stitch is different than embroidery in that it is only one stitch-- little x's are made in rows by counting threads in the base cloth, and every stitch should be the same size. Embroidery is made up of many different stitches, which are often of varied shapes and sizes to add texture to the design. I'm sure there are better explanations on the interwebs, but that's what I consider the difference.

Again, it's a beautiful way to use your family handwork.

Perhaps, to not sound so snarky, I should add that cross stitch is done in rows and therefore the back threads are much neater and organized, or clipped entirely. This is a beautiful use of a family heirloom.

The threads don't show because this is cross stitch, not embroidery.

I definitely use the lighting idea by turning OFF the lights completely in any room I haven't cleaned yet. Since I don't have closets, that's also where the laundry basket of junk gets stashed. One more thing: I have a wooden serving tray & stash the coffee/end table clutter (remote, paper, etc) under the couch.

it's hard to tell from the photo, but it the window surround is metal, perhaps try darlingclementine's idea, only secure the framing with hook and loop tape or (depending on the metal) magnets?

I hear ya! I once lived in a converted warehouse on Detroit’s east side. The space had a crap lock and a hollow core door, but I felt safe on the third floor. Until the 2nd floor tenant moved out and sublet to a crack dealer who turned it into a blind pig on the weekends. My dad installed an awesome security system consisting of L-brackets screwed securely into the floor and wall studs, and 2x4s (think of the bar holding a barn door shut). Plus I got a dog—he was small but was part coon hound so he sounded like an angry bear when he barked. When the vice squad raided the building and searched all the lofts (I think they knocked, then shoulder shoved the doors in) mine was the only loft they didn’t actually get into. Actually, I think the dog barking was a bigger deterrent than than the door blockade.

the "no shows" irk me to no end. The last time I had something listed I even passed on an offer because someone else had made an appointment to pick it up... and never came. The problem with anonymity is the lack of accountability.

Or, if you're really cheap like me, you can use toilet bowl cleanser (i like Sno Bol cause it's not a gel). The key is to use a base chemical to age the mirror, then neutralize it (rinsing works) to stop the process.

Try a leather wholesaler. I've bought from here http://www.rodenleather.com/ , but I went in to the shop and picked out my hides.
