Yes, I remember slide rules - used one often when determining dividend/bond yields etc. - before the calculator came along.

I also did learn how to use an abacus - guess I am someone of "advanced years".

This apartment is fantastic! I love everything about it. Now this is what this site was supposed to about!

Thank you.

Aulaire,

I agree with you 100%. I am soooo tired of hearing that newer is better.

Believe it or not, you can still install electricity and wiring etc without then destroying everything that even hints at old.

As I said in my original post, they destroyed an 17th French manor house.

What they have done is destroyed a 17th century French manor house.

Believe me, the countryside was much more beautiful without these things.

It's still a housing development and that still spoils the area.

I wouldn't be without a landline. I resisted getting a cell phone for a long time, especially after 9/11 because cell phones did not work; they also didn't work the night of the blackout. I can talk comfortably for long stretches with the landline and don't ever have to worry about not having enough bars, reception, recharging etc as you do with a cell.

I rarely use my cell, in fact.

Never felt the need to have a conversation while in the street, in the supermarket, on the train, or, the best (actually the worst) in the bathroom UGH UGH.

For some reason, I cannot access the entries. Tried yesterday also.

Is there some secret way to do so?

Thanks,

I have hundreds of books and divide them by category.
Several books on Italy are displayed on a round bistro table; many of my books (with black and white covers) on NYC are on three end tables, etc. Any time someone visits, they reach for the books and we end up discussing them. I have always had books out on "display" and love using them for this purpose, but I never thought of it as decorating with books, which I guess it is.

I have to admit that there are many more deserving of this than I, and the entries are heart-wrenching, as well as quite clever.

However, picture this - a sixty-one year old lady watching TV on a 13 '' TV, well over 20 years, with a wavy line through it because it is slowly dying.

And then, if in your hearts, you feel you can deprive her of this new TV, then you must. But the other entrants are young and at the beginning of the earning capabilities, while I am old and am at the end of mine.
