i think there are laws for "defacing" currency...or making it unable to keep circulation such as drilling holes, cutting, cements together. but there are also cracks where people get away with this stuff too. so i don't know. but this stuff does remind me of bars and bad steakhouse decor. i don't think i'd ever walk into somebody's house and say "wow, this table is incredible."

i just use crushed up eggshell from my breakfast (rinsed first of course!) with a little bit of liquid dish soap. that works perfect especially with the little vanilla bottles that have such small necks. Just make sure that you crush up the egg shells for those extra small.

All those points are very important. We did exactly what you have done except for the movers. ABF was incredible and the woman helped us figure out the perfect dates so we wouldn't be charged for "storage" fees while we were driving cross country. We made sure to stuff that thing jam packed! Really...PACKED! there wasn't one area that wasn't stuffed with something.

One thing I would recommend (which was a serious space saver in the pod) would be to pack boxes in all four corners and put your box spring/bed on top of those. Then we put our framed (packed well of course) artwork on top of the bed and stuffed it well. That way all the bottom area is left for furniture and others stuff. you wouldn't believe how much space it saved and we didn't waste any! our bikes were even hung upside down from the ceiling of the thing and we had to run and shove the doors closed.

It sounds ridiculous, but the more packed it is, the less stuff moves around which could break or scratch.

You definitely have to figure out if the items you're moving are worth the cost and effort. if they're not, then get rid of them before you move and just buy it when you get to where you're going.

could you do something else other than painting? although there are some paints that are made to fuse to plastics they really don't hold up that well. could you find someone that etches? laser? ponoko.com may have someone that could do this for you. or you could sand blast it. find someone that could make you a vinyl stencil from a vinyl cutter. and if you know of someone with a sand blaster you could sand blast the stencil and it would leave an etched surface.
i have access to all these things, so it may be easier for me to say "do this." but, there are people out there (ponoko.com) that could do this for you and for not that much money...considering you're getting a custom job!

ha, her outfit was completely distracting. but, i didn't know it was as easy as using a knife to cut off the end. i have an idea of using these to keep ghost shrimp and aquatic plants.

I've recently moved from Richmond VA to Santa Barbara CA using a container system through U-PACK "ABF"...they were great. it was around $1500 which seems like a lot, but we were moving 3 track bikes, vintage bajaj scooter, 2 longboard surfboards plus all our other crap. The cost of moving all that stuff was worth the money rather than risk it through mailing services (not to mention packing prices!) There's windows where you don't have to pay for storage fees...as well as they allow 3 days for packing which doesn't include weekends, so we would have it delivered on a thursday and have them pick it up on monday.
We then drove cross country and estimated how long it would take and called the UPACK location in CA when we were about 5 days away and had them deliver it then. They were amazing and helpful and didn't give us any hassle. The only problem is that when you pack it, you really have to make sure that everything is secure otherwise stuff shifts and things could break. luckily we had so much stuff that there wasn't any room for shifting!
There is also this website (sorry i forgot what it is) that I was looking at, it's a site where you write where you're moving to, the dates, and what you are moving...then people/businesses will bid on your move. Basically when truckers have a not so full container and they happen to be going where you are going, they don't mind the extra money and fit your stuff in their container. It was cheaper, but we couldn't find somebody who could move the dates we needed.
so........I would go with UPACK, if your stuff is worth the move then you're just going to have to suck it up and pay the price. good luck! we had a blast moving cross country
