Glad to see some GMO pragmatists here. Not one illness or disease has ever been attributed to GMOs and they solve a lot of problems agriculturally, especially in places where it's difficult to farm. People were afraid of electricity too when it was new. People used to think tomatoes were poisonous and would turn your blood to acid. This too shall pass...or it should, anyway.

Just because you're single (as opposed to married) doesn't mean you're alone, nor necessarily young -- that 16% also includes single mothers, women with live-in partners they're not married to, and women who are caring for elderly parents. This also isn't necessarily first-time buyers, so some of these women are likely trading up or down. Some of them may even be retirees who are newly widowed and downsizing. It's an interesting statistic, but not necessarily a trend the way it's portrayed by the Daily News, and it seems like an obvious point is being missed. With fewer women getting married at all (especially single mothers), if they are going to purchase homes or apartments, they're more likely to be single when they do it.

All The Single Ladies... Are Investing In Home Equity

I grew up in NYC where everybody rented (at that time...condos were a relatively new thing). It was my fantasy to own my own house, with a yard. I bought that house in Seattle when I was 31, at the boom time (2001), no money down. It's been very expensive, I won't lie...but it was a fixer upper so I knew what I was getting into & was willing to live with it very compromised for a long time. Now I've built an apartment in the basement for my mom, and I have a kid, so we are three generations under one roof. I can make more apartments in my place if I want to, which should help with retirement (come what may). It's so great that I am able to do this, but today's 20-somethings are not in such good shape careerwise as I was at their age, so I can see why ownership is on the wane. My generation will carry the next to some extent, and then who knows what will happen.

Farmed salmon spread disease to wild salmon populations. It's not just a matter of taste. They are contributing to the decline in wild salmon. Their life activities are nothing like wild salmon; rather than migrating long distances and eating food they find naturally in streams and rivers, they live in enclosures and tanks and stay in one place, eating man-made fish food. For this reason, the flesh has an unhealthy-looking pale color and is usually dyed before being sold in stores.

It looks to be a typo. In the last pic you can see you are cutting across the grain when you slice, so the grain would need to be E-W but the meat itself is oriented N-S (and that's how you roll it up too).

I Flew twice this week, on the way out I brought a homemade braunschweiger sandwich with cream cheese, lettuce and peppercorn Dijon, and a little ziploc container of herby potato salad, with a disposable fork. On the way back I had a drink at the terminal sports bar before my flight, & had them make me a caprese sandwich and side salad to go & took it on the plane in a box. It was great! Much better than buying something prewrapped from Starbucks or wherever that got made at 4am.

I made this as written and it was pretty bland, even though I seasoned it aggressively and used giant cloves of garlic. I'd suggest using a stronger cheese like feta or Gruyere, and/or adding some ham or sausage. But the construction is cool and totally works.

Hear hear on the vacuuming! I keep the counters clean, catbox scooped, laundry picked up, and dirty dishes in the dishwasher, not the sink (most of the time). All else is negotiable.

Why is being awoken by the sun good for you? Here in the Pacific NW we really get whipsawed around between summer, when it's light at 10pm, and winter, when it gets dark at 4:30.

The piece in the photo here looks to be a Cindy Sherman photograph. She mostly takes self portraits (this is one) in dramatic situations, like a movie still, with costume and makeup. She also did a series that look like Old Masters paintings (but they're all photographs, of her). And she did a set that was basically artfully arranged garbage and detritus. Fascinating stuff, seriously! If this is an official print it must have been quite expensive.
