I'm sure it'll be a lot of work, but I think painting it green is an awesome idea. I think it's current state is on the boring side, and could easily be found in my great-grandmother's house. good luck!

Oh man, I just moved OUT of Louisiana because it was so miserable! Happily living in the Pacific Northwest now.... I can't imagine who in their right minds would consider any place in Louisiana a "happy" place. Different strokes for different folks, I guess...

I just moved here a few months ago, and I used a combination of craigslist and Zillow to find a good place. Good luck!

I wish I had a guide like this when I moved to Seattle a few months ago! I am a little disappointed that there's no mention of the Kirkland/Bellevue/Redmond area, they can be pricey but it's unbeatable for commuting to Microsoft and other big-name tech companies.

My boyfriend and I recently moved across the country with three of his friends. It's really helpful financially, since we're all between the ages of 21-29. It's also nice knowing a few people in this completely foreign city, but I'm really not all that fond of some of the roommates... It's difficult to have alone time and they sometimes makes me feel uncomfortable in my own home. I think I'd be much more comfortable on my own, but having more money in my pocket definitely wins over comfort.

I lived in southern Louisiana for years, still with no top sheet. I have a lightweight quilt and a heavy comforter that I switch out depending on the season.

I never (and I do mean NEVER) have people over, so having more than a 4 piece set for myself and my roommates is just excessive and takes up too much room in our already small kitchen.

On the knives issue, I don't eat meat so it's always seemed silly having a dozen steak knives in the kitchen. I would much rather have lots of knives for chopping and preparing food and a few butter knives for just about everything else.

I'm all for skipping the top sheet. I always end up wrestling with it in my sleep and have to untangle myself in the morning... that is, if I haven't kicked it off the bed while sleeping.

As an American, I've never understood the obsession with our flag. I don't understand the need to hang it everywhere, and I think it looks tacky in the home. I don't get why people are so fussy over a piece of stripy fabric.

I think the bigger concern here is that having ice directly against your skin can be painful. I'd rather use an ice pack instead.

I love the bold colors. The chevron stripes are fabulous and the tchotchkes are to die for. I think the photos above the bed are sweet. What a wondeful home!

While I agree for the most part, there's a sign in our break room at work that always inspires me that says something like "Do great things. It's what you're here for."
