Keep a list of recipes or meals you (and your family) like and make regularly. I have a small notebook with a page for different things (beef, pork, vegies, salads, etc.) The recipes are kept separately. Then, when you are feeling brain dead or just tired and staring into the frig or the cabinet, you can go to your list and get some ideas. This works beautifully for me. Just make sure to add to it when you find other things you like to eat.

A home should be decorated in any style that pleases the owner. Perhaps zedsmith considrs him/herself the self-proclaimed judge on appropriate home decorating, but those comments suggest a rather shallow and pedestrian personality.

Looks too institutional to me. Reminds me of school bathrooms.

Now this is a light and airy kitchen. Beautiful and well-done.

I don't see light and airy. I see dark and heavy.

I would think twice about drilling holes in tile to put up a metal shelf like this. When it starts to get old or rust and you want to remove it someday, you are going to be left with some ugly holes. Then what are you going to do? Try to find something that fits in those holes to cover them up. That tile will long outlast the shelf.

I have a lazy susan made of marble. I got it at the thrift store so I can't tell you where to find one. But unlike wood, there are no concerns with heat or liquid damage. I would think twice about buying one made of wood.

My favorite is #2. Maybe because I live in the Midwest and spend too much time indoors, but I just love a room with lots of windows.

Speaking from the view point of the parent: love and respect each other, have a good sense of humor. As I told my daughter-in-law, it's hard not to give advice. You just have to let it go in one ear and out the other and we will both be happy.

Let me expand on that. If I had to do anything but sleep in that place, I would go absolutely insane from the lack of color.

I put small, clear, colored bottles and vases on the window sills in the winter. Even on a cloudy day, the light shining through them provides some needed color. They really catch your eye.

I don't think that works. The bins stand out too much. They are the first thing you notice and I don't think that's that effect you want when you walk into a beautiful room like that.

If you wash your white clothes with chlorine bleach, you can throw your sponges in the wash. The chlorine will kill any and all germs. I always use sponges but I never use them for more than one day, sometimes less, without washing them.

We in the Midwest (who are used to blizzards) like to make jokes about places where life grinds to a halt with a snowstorm. But we also know how deadly they can be and sometimes the smart thing to do is to stay home and wait till things get better.

If none of these great ideas seems to be doing the job, consider that you might have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Buy yourself a full-spectrum lamp and use it daily.

We took in a stray adult female cat two years. We had two others at the time. She has an anxiety problem, probably related to her time as a stray. Our vet put her on tranquilizers. It helped tremendously. After 6 months we tried to work her off but she started freaking out again. We tried again in 6 months and she is off medication. She is still a little neurotic, but they all manage to coexist comfortably. It's something you might want to try if you are feeling desperate.
