I shopped and researched rugs like crazy because I not only needed something in the $100 range but I also have a cute puppy that tracks in dirt from the dog park so rugs in my house have a short shelf life and of course I wanted something really cute. Anyways, here is what I learned.
- Overstock: Wasn't ready to risk paying a boatload for shipping to get a smelly rug
- Found a great one at JC Penny: 5X7 $150: soft indoor outdoor, gorgeous pattern and free shipping! But while the pattern was great, I decided that a patterned rug would kinda determine the feel of the room and I wanted more wiggle room with accessories:)
- World Market: gorgeous, well made rugs-just didn't find what I was looking for-but that store is great
- Pier One: What happened to them? they are not really trying to keep up in the rug department. Not impressed with their prices or styles
- Flor tiles: Order a sample before buying because some of the tiles have SUPER rough fabric. Also if you don't want to choose their checkerboard type patterns and want something solid like me, I saw a couple solid ones in person and you can see that they are square tiles put together so I passed on this; even though the ability to wash them individually in the sink is actually super helpful with having a pup
- IKEA: great selection. bought a 4X6 $30- beige rug and in a 2 days it already looked grimy. Probably my fault for choosing beige
- Had a rug from Lowes, 8x11 $55 (basically a bordered off piece of rug but with great texture) lasted about 4 months till it got real grimy. Decided to replace it instead of cleaning it.
- Prarie rug or cotton rag rug: almost did it but wasn't into any of the colors available
- Jute rug: brown rug with brown wood coffee table is not ascetically pleasing and would not be cozy in the winter
- Dash and Albert: WHY do all of your cotton affordable rugs have stripes?? argh. Found a great polypropylene (super durable) rug without strips and D&A but it was too pricey (for me anyways), sigh.
- The winner I happened upon at Target! 5X7 $30
BEAUTIFUL color! Super durable! Can't see spots! And while I can't take it to the dry cleaners to get cleaned I can rent a little mobile carpet cleaner if I need to, but with the fabric and the colors I think this rug should hold up very well.
Hope this helped a bit:)
