lovelovelove. i have a little guy - still only 6 months old - but this is the sort of look we've gone with for his room. all a little mismatchy, but it works. i'd have loved this room as a little girl.

one question - i see a little pink rabbit and a deer wall decal...where did those come from?

i've always loved the look of light gray with wood elements -- gray is a great neutral that plays well with wood, i think. especially with pops of color through accessories.

what's outside your windows? obviously it'd be lighter if you had them open...? :) but if there's a less-than-thrilling view (or neighbors looking directly in on you), consider at least ditching the blinds for some sheer roman shades or (better yet) some lovely decorative window films to let the light in without sacrificing privacy. i love the emma jeff's ones (and have her "pearl" design on my all-glass bathroom door).

Wall Color Ideas with Dark Kitchen Cabinets? Good Questions

last year we did a partial renovation (basically all that was untouched was the kitchen, sadly), but because our budget was so tight ($25k total), we ended up doing most of the work ourselves. things turned out fine, but damn, if you've got the money to spend on hiring stuff out, DO IT. :) tiling the bathroom floor alone nearly made me swallow my tongue in rage about thirty times. looking forward to seeing the progress of this reno!

One of the best things my husband and I did in Rome while on our honeymoon a few years ago was just to walk with no real destination in mind...we wandered the city randomly, finding charming little pockets of awesomeness probably not in any guide book. Worth mentioning, oddly, is the rampant graffiti all over the city...some of it really beautiful, especially juxtaposed with the patina of ancient streets and buildings.

But yeah...definitely hit the more "touristy" spots like the Colosseum, Vatican, Pantheon, etc. So amazing, and worth the heavier crowds and/or entry fees.

There's nothing like Rome. :)

In our old house (which we rented), we had crazy purple counter tops. I ended up ordering some Fasade decorative panels through Home Depot and using carpet tape to put them up as backsplash...sounds ghetto, but actually the finished product was awesome and it totally toned down the purple counters to the point where I actually loved the whole effect.

So what I'm saying is, check out Fasade's stuff. :) It comes in all different designs and finishes, and is much more affordable than tile. Easier to install, too. Just goes on over whatever's already there. Good luck!

I second the white noise maker - I can't sleep without one. Every little noise keeps me up. My hippie doctor told me the best snack before bed is a small snack (like, 1-2 bites) that balances fat, fiber, and protein. For example, a couple of crackers with a bit of cheese and a little tuna. It helps me sleep because I don't wake up in the night hungry...

Oh, forgot: Someone bought me a CD years and years ago of Rachmaninoff's vespers, sung by the Robert Shaw Festival Singers. GORGEOUS. And very relaxing. For me, anyway.

I've had some of the best sleeps of my life falling asleep to BBC radio. Something about a calm British accent...

I actually liked the Weightless song, but only because it's near impossible for me to fall asleep to music. Like the Sound Therapy researcher said, the lack of any repeatable melody is what's key in that one...whenever I try to fall asleep to music - even instrumental music - I end up trying to find a pattern to latch onto, or I'll involuntarily start tapping my toes or fingers to the rhythm, or I'll imagine some scenario in my head that fits the music...and it keeps me awake.

But that's just me...I also had one of the greatest naps of my life to Coldplay on shuffle in the distant background, so I might be odd. :) I do love me some Coldplay.

i know others have already said it again and again, but jim dale reading the potter series is brilliant. love him. i'd love to try out the stephen fry version, too, though...i love me some stephen fry.

also, sarah vowell reading any of her books. such a weird, quirky way of speaking she has, but it absolutely matches her material. :)

Easily my favorite House Tour to date...love the colors, the art, the light, the plants, and the "real people live happily here" vibe. So great. Thanks for sharing.

i agree with the few other posters who said stick with white. then you can introduce color through accessories instead of through paint that'll butt right up against the tile colors and probably look kinda weird (since they're difficult colors to complement).

this is easily the coolest nursery i've ever seen. so original, so colorful. frankly, the kids don't really care about the decor of their rooms until they're older, so nursery design is really for the parents...and this is definitely a nursery i wouldn't mind spending a lot of time in, even at 3am. :) my only worry with vintage is always lead paint...that sh*t is everywhere.

Bitchin'! AND, as an added bonus, I saw recently on Pinterest an orphaned drawer upcycled into a cute side table (in this case, for the bathroom) - so there's what to do with that middle drawer that gets cut off.

Love some of it, don't love some of it. To each his own! What matters is that they love it. I'd love to have seen a before pic, though. We here in Portland do love our multi-colored Victorians. :)

There's a site called tineye.com that lets you enter the URL of a photo (not the page it's on, but the actual image URL) and it'll try to track down the originating URL for you. I used it just the other day for a picture of wallpaper someone had pinned from Tumblr, and it found the source for me. Until people quit pinning from Tumblr (not likely anytime soon, I'm guessing...), it's a good resource for finding pin sources...

I'm with others that the quality and freshness of the stuff might not be the greatest, but I bet it'll be good for certain things in the same way Urban Outfitters is, or IKEA. I'm looking forward to it being available here...
