I don't mind the truth, myself, because I know that we have a real problem in this world (esp. the USA) with overconsumption of goods. Actually, I don't need to visit a landfill; I get the same effect going to a local used junk store and looking at all the knickknacks and clothes that someone like me was just dying to have, but that they got rid of because it no longer was their special thing. I now go to stores in the mall and recognize that 99% of that crap will end up cluttering someone's home someday, only to end up in a landfill sooner than it should.

I've switched to reading a hard copy book or a Kindle Paperwhite (with the built-in light turned way down) for reading before bed and using a traditional silent-running analog alarm clock (Seiko, on Amazon.com) which I turn-off the LED light. I've also put black-out "dims" (Amazon.com and Thinkgeek.com) on all LED lights in the bedroom to keep them from disrupting my sleep. All of these things have greatly helped me get a more restful sleep even when I get less than 8 hours.
