@Mouse39: haha, best get over that and soon. If past history is any indication, we're in for more of the same for the rest of the month. I swear every year I'm going to take a break from AT during June but I just cannot do it.

Besides, I've never been able to bypass a diy post and there are tons of great ideas in the wedding posts that can be used for other occasions. Inspiration can be found anywhere if you seek it. Just consider it a treasure hunt and scroll on past the bits you don't find interesting without comment.

"I type at least as fast as I talk, without needing to wait for software to figure out what I'm saying."

@aquibble: Me too. This is precisely why I despise texting. I can tear up a keyboard at the speed of light but don't expect me communicate by text or you'll be waiting forever. Makes me want to toss my smart phone across the room (and I might if it wasn't so expensive, lol).

Much as it frustrates me, I was hoping for some tips here on how to use voice control effectively - or in my case, at all.

Why, oh why, do my posts keep getting deleted? It's almost as frustrating as voice control:(

I tend to agree for the most part with confounded's comment. I particularly detest texting with a passion. Nothing annoys me more than one who wants to 'chat' via text. If a text requires more than a one or two word response, I generally ignore it. If it's important, the texter is free to pick up the phone & call me for an irl convo. If it's not [insert your own interpretation here].

I would absolutely use voice text at least if it could translate my southe'n drawl even with some slight semblance of accuracy. As it is, it's an exercise in futility and I can do without the frustration. I can't even command my silly phone to 'call home'. How difficult can it be?

It's not just me, however. I get some seriously strange voice texts from my native CA friend. Four out of five times on average, I have to ask her to translate. We've had some good laughs over those but generally, it's more trouble than it's worth.

@confounded, haha, I don't necessarily disagree. Although I would use voice text if the blasted tech could translate a souther'n drawl. I detest texting with a passion. @ Dodie @ quiltlover: Yes both of these things are very important. I got caught up in that trap early on until I had that Aha! moment. Never again. We've always had an open door policy and guests are always welcome. We doe our best to make them comfortable but *we* live here and we enjoy our home to it's fullest. I stopped caring years ago what the future owners may or may not like.

@ ciddyguy: There's the perfect home out there with your name on it just waiting for you to discover in which your muse can run wild. Granted, our tastes are dissimilar but I have no doubt you will not hesitate to make it your own. Looking forward to a house tour, here and celebrating with you.

7 Home Regrets You Don't Want to Have in 10 Years

Great list Adrienne. I'd have to say the largest contributing factor in avoiding regrets is living beneath one's means. I wasted years apologizing for our modest rental homes in dh's home stomping grounds in a large metro area. I came to dread entertaining, something I'd always loved.

Then I watched as his house-poor friends lost their fancy spacious homes & often even their furniture as well. (who knew that showroom look was financed?!) I watched again as the few who managed to stay together through the financial stress repeated their mistakes.

We eventually relocated to a small town, primarily for the school system but also to be nearer aging parents. We bought a home which will be paid off shortly, long before the term of the original loan. Our expenses combined are less than half what we would be paying in the city today. Experience is an excellent teacher and wisdom comes with age (thanks, Dad)

As for regrets, the only real regret that remains is not buying sooner. Granted, home ownership is not for everyone but it works for us. It's economical and we're happy. Sharing our home with others is a pleasure.

Since your landlord has been flexible in the past, I'd first ask him to replace the faucet & recess the med cab and explain why. Offer to buy the faucet if he seems hesitant. If the existing med cab is too wide to recess between studs, offer to purchase a narrower one so you can retain the storage it provides. Replacing it with a flat mirror is certainly an option, just not the best one in such a tiny bath.

I would absolutely leave the installing to him for liability reasons. If anything goes wrong during the process, you cannot be held responsible.

Good luck.

Every time I read one of these posts, I get furious. How is it I'm the only one on the planet to have all my food confiscated by security? every.single.time. I pack the same healthy/travel-worthy stuff shared on these posts.

Dh is a frequent flier & and I send him off with the same fare. He's never once encountered a problem.

Should I Restore 40s Maple Doors or Paint? Good Questions
5/22/14 12:27 PM

Agreed.

Sheila, restoring the doors is really not a difficult job even for a beginner and it looks like you have some experience under your belt. Methinks it's the intimidation factor of ELEVEN! doors that's paralyzed you. That won't change whether you restore OR paint. Get over it.

Break it down into smaller projects as ojacobson suggested and stop stressing. You.can.do.this. Now...why are you here reading instead of working on a door? Time's awastin :)
