I made the antique store rounds routinely until I found the perfect reclaimed wood top with a picnic style base. It was 1,000. Steep for me but still affordable compared to designer versions. Don't worry about care - the more worn it, beat up and stained, the better. Most of this wood has withstood the test of time - often outdoors - and has been through much worse than anything you could do to it. Good luck!

My bedroom was painted a deep brown when I moved in. I had every intention to brighten that baby up soon, but the brown has since grown on me. My comforter is a bright anthro quilt, so it keeps the room from feeling dreary. All my accessories in the room are bright or light colors, and it really is a nice contrast.

I have that Ikea lampshade, and I've always been a little self-conscious about it. I felt like it was intended for a little girl's room, but I just loved the birght colors and texture. Glad to see you have pulled off "dressing up" the shade.

There are some great antique stores in the cooper-young area that will be able to suggest designers for you. Try the Market, Toad Hall, La Maison, Abbey's Too. Cooper Young is for sure your neighborhood to hang around until you find something. Good luck. I just decorated my house and there is mid-century stuff out there. Just be patient and hit the antique and flea rounds often. You can also find some good stuff at Bojo's on Summer.
