Jared...It's holding up good. I actually like it. The only thing I don't like is that b/c it's dark it shows everything but hey, it keeps accountable to cleaning it. LOL! But other than that I like it. However, I do love the way the dark looks though so it's a love/hate relationship.

As far as decision to place stove there. For one, If we would have put the stove on the side where the dishwasher is I would have always been in the way of guests. Two, putting the stove there gives me the chance to be by everyone but have people on me while I'm cooking. Also, it's great that the sick is right to the left side b/c pans go there as I'm done. So, for me it really does work great.

LOVE your reno. And I love that you kept the beam. I've always wanted one in my kitchen.

This pics are actually about a couple of years old (right after we finished the reno). Some things have changed in the kitchen such in decor. I'll have to add some new pics in the future.

We actually did look into hoods to put above the stove. It was a concern of ours as well but then did some research and saw that it's not necessary and since we had just done a ton of buying we decided to wait on it. We've been using it for almost two years now and have never had an issue at all by not having one. However, it's something that we will probably add later on. Also, the concern about the length of the backsplash...it's not even an issue. It's high enough. Our couch is light and we've never had anything on it. I think me seating on it while eating has done more damage. :) It's actually higher than you probably think. And I love to cook and do so just about every single day. I'm actually a clean freak (just ask my husband, poor thing will tell you how much of a clean freak I am) and the backsplash doesn't even get really greasy as the one at the condo used to get and that one had a hood. We don't even get anything on the top small counter of the half wall. I actually LOVE having the stove there. It works perfect for us. I love being able to cook while looking over at people/tv. And since the fridge is right behind it, it helps with easy access and there's plenty of room in between. And as far as the design, I know it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea but we do love it! Thanks for taking a look at it! :)
