We are a family with limited technology-while we purchased an iPad two months ago, neither my husband nor myself have a smart phone, we have basic basic cable, etc. While I think that technology is beneficial to kids and that they need to be aware of what is around since schools are now using things too, I think it's used WAY too often. You do what you need to in order to get by during the day, but it is all too easy to just plop the kids down in front of an iPad! The Popularity of Phones and Tablets as Babysitters |

When I saw Charlie and Lola and disdain in the title of this post, I almost cried. My husband and I totally avoid licensed characters but stumbled upon Charlie and Lola through books, only to realize that Disney bought them-but they are too cute to give up on now and both my kids love them! I made these for our playroom and while I like how they look, both pulled up and put down, they are a pain in the neck to raise on a daily basis (we have 5 windows!)! Make Suspender Curtains Parents.com |

I have had someone use my paypal account to buy a computer-the seller was not very good at catching this though as the guy said he wanted it shipped to a different address and sent him a prepaid label! What a mess it was! Get Smart: How To Avoid the Top 3 Online Shopping Scams |

It's so refreshing to see this. I have recently read an article in Boston Parent's Paper about how writing a thank you note isn't necessary-emails, texts, etc. are acceptable! I was shocked! Growing up I was always 'forced' to write thank you notes and as an adult continue to write them. I want to make sure my kids do the same! Making Thank You Note Writing More Fun for Kids |

Our CSA has a surplus of cucumbers every year, so we've been making pickles for a while. We've had a hard time getting them crispy (and don't really have enough time to invest for the way to make them with ice) but we love the pickles we make! And it is way more fun to play around with herbs and spices and see how each batch turns out. And it really doesn't take long to make! Make or Buy? Pickles |

I second the blog thing-we have it shared with family and friends who are far away, but it's way easier for me to plop down, write an entry and add a picture than to go the book route-we also published ours through blurb and love it! Go for it! As everyone else has said, stopping makes all the difference. But be warned-sometimes the go while baby needs to sleep doesn't work so well. What a difficult situation. If I'm lucky enough, my husband will call out sick, but usually I just lay low, also use the tv as an 'aide' and try to spend as much time on the couch-reading them books, playing on the couch, just not moving! On Keeping Little Ones Happy When Parents Have The Plague |
