Thank you Adora, when I was a child we used blankets in that way, but they were always a bit stiff, so they didn't follow the shape of your body. Then we went on holyday to Austria and in the hotel we slept under enormous feather duvets. When I was 16 I convinced my parents that I wanted a feather duvet for my birthday. I haven't slept under anything else since.
But the discussion above amazes me because I've never paid more than $40 for a cover (difficult to translate the size, but for a double (2 persons) bed) which I think is the average price over here.

Being dutch, I have a question: what's a comforter?

What wonders me about all these responses is that almost everyone is talking about their (grand)parents house. One question that immediately springs to mind: why didn't they buy those houses themselves if they were so attached to it? Since I see hardly any mentions of their own houses it would appear to be a good choice.
I've always put a lot of efford in rebuilding and renovating the houses I've lived in to make it my own. So everytime I have to leave it, it feels like I have to let go of a part of me.

@ abcornwell - september is tricky to say because it can be really warm and sunny, but it can also be windy and lots of rain. It is the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. Sorry I can't be more specific, but that's dutch weather for you ;-)

Thank you Adrienne. It's true, it's the best location in the world, but that doesn't mean it can't be enhanced ;-)
You could come for a holiday, because I rent it to tourists ... ;-)

I have a houseboat in the center of Amsterdam and in stead of hanging regular green or brown containers on the waterside of the railing I used or orange and purple bygel containers and put violets in them. Really happy with them.

I love articles like this! But I have a question, since I live in the Netherlands and we're using the metric system, would it be possible for you to add the sizes in meters as well? That would be great. I'm sure I'm not the only fan from Europe ;-)
