The dining room is beautiful and dramatic indeed, but I find the rest of the house uninspiring. The living room tries too hard and the bedroom is forgettable in my opinion. I suppose I expected more from a designer by trade.

I am also uncomfortable with printing images of paintings from the web unless, as Devyn said, they're from museum collections. I, myself, can't afford to buy an original painting but I do buy prints, often from artists themselves. This is my way of recognizing the hours of labor that they've put into creating their art.

I think a citing a more specific section in the U.S. Copyright Law would be more helpful, rather than relying on the general definition of "copyright infringement." This way, the readers or the owner of the blog can decide if her/his action constitutes a violation of copyright law. Thanks!

I wrap my herbs and leafy vegetables in think kitchen linens before putting them in the fridge and they last 3 or 4 times longer. You can also use paper towels but I think using linens is so much more environmentally friendly, not to mention cheaper in the long run.

My brother and his wife have a cleaner who comes twice a month. They both have very demanding jobs and two growing kids (a 5 year old and a toddler). For them, hiring a housekeeper enables them to see family and friends and gives them some personal time. So, yes, I think it is very "grown up" to have numerous responsibilities and to prioritize relationships over privacy or aversion to having strangers clean your home.

I had a similar problem with our loft's windows. I ended up sewing my own linen curtains. You can get reasonably priced linens from Grey Line Linens at W 39th St, between 7th and 8th, if you live near NYC area. Alternatively, you can also order from They will send swatches for free. Good luck!

I love your space!

I agree with Parnassus re the CB2 credenza. We use it for our entertainment center and it's worth every penny. Also agree with floating the sofa and the moving the Poang chairs around.

I think the space could also use some lamps and plants.

We have hardwood floors with polyurethane finish and we were told by professional cleaners not to use vinegar. We use damp microfiber cloth instead and it does the trick.

@ Lorelski. You've made your point clear and I don't see any reason to belabor your opinion. I think it is equally rude to dominate a conversation.

I'm not a big fan of the color choices. I would have painted the cabinets white or use white contact paper to really brighten up the space and highlight the brown trim of the cabinets. I think it's the back splash and the floor that made huge improvement in this kitchen.

We have very tall loft windows so it's prohibitively expensive for me to buy curtains. I make my own. I get printed Marrimekko fabric from Crate and Barrel outlet, and when I want sheer curtains, I get 100% linen fabric from You can order swatches for free + free shipping, and if you sign up to receive emails from them, they usually have 25% discount happy hour on Thursdays. I have purchased good quality linens from them for as low as $6 per yard.
