BEAUTIFUL TILE! Holy, I'm redoing my bathroom and my end goal is to have tile like that (though in black and white). I agree with the previous posters on playing up the tile, either going the retro-fun, loud modern patterns and colours. Or a dark grey in both would just make the tile POP.

I agree that without seeing your kitchen it is hard to say, but I made the choice to go with all new white appliances for my small 1950s kitchen. I have never regretted my choice, the white is classic which fits my old house. Also I've observed that if the the appliances are high quality, they look great, no matter the colour. My boyfriend had all stainless, but just builder basic, and I had all high quality white appliances. It was surprising how you could see the difference!

I have the same issue in my kitchen and bathroom. Except in the kitchen they also put the terrible brown tiles that are on the floor as the backsplash. Which made it even more so a sea of brown. What I ended up doing was adding a ton of colour (mainly red) in terms of accessories and small appliances. It's helped brighten the space and make the brown less of a punch in the face.
