So incredibly beautiful. I audibly gasped when I opened the pic of the bathroom. Also frantically looking up the dining table!

I did all these (plus everything in SPiFFSeattle's post, yardwork, etc.) when I moved out of my rental house in June, and my landlord sent me an email detailing what kind of cleaners I needed to go back and use, etc. (said the stainless steel appliances were streaky - which they were, due to cheap appliances - I'd been trying to get them streak-free for a year!). I replied with an insanely detailed list of everything we'd done to clean and she finally dropped it. But even working your butt off to clean isn't always enough for some landlords.

Nice! My 5-year-old son has just asked us to paint his room in our new house "aqua" and I'm having a hard time figuring out just what that means. This one is a contender!

Those look cool, and I'm sure are very practical, but the first thing I see when I see those is my five-year-old picking it up and promptly swinging it into a wall (or his sister's head)!

Also posting to ask about the paint color! I've been looking for a warm gray for my living room, and it's challenging!

So cute! What is the name of the blue paint color? My 5-year-old wants a blue room, and that's near the shade he'd like. I also love that it's only on the bottom half of the walls, to keep it from being overwhelming.

OP here - I hadn't realized this had been posted yet - thank you for such detailed and fabulous suggestions!

We definitely have already talked about both framing the mirrors (in both rooms) and removing/replacing the shower door in the olive room (the color is showing up lighter and less green than it is in real life). I like the idea of bright white or paler colors with darker accents for that room too. That's the master bath, and we're planning on painting the master bedroom in Benjamin Moore Newburgh Green, so I think white/navy would stick with the jewel tone and rich color of the master.

The salmon room is trickier for me, partly because it will be the kids' bathroom. I don't like themes or too much whimsy, but I think keeping it bright and airy will be good for kids. There is no window, but there is a skylight that helps a lot. That also makes it challenging in terms of paint or wallpaper though!

We are lucky that the tile is in pristine condition in both rooms, which is part of why we're not in a rush to replace it. I hadn't thought of painting it, but that's definitely something to consider!

I have a dresser that my parents bought at a yard sale when my mom was pregnant with me ('79). I have no idea how old it is, but on the underside of one of the drawers are several caricature drawings of Nixon and LBJ. I used it as a kid, refinished it and took it to college, and now both my children have used it as a dresser in their room (it's the perfect size for a changing pad on the top and holds a LOT).

Me too, victory9. My kids are 5 and 1, and I already see the challenges. My 5-year-old came home from school last week with an "iPad" he made out of construction paper, with an earbud from a knot in a piece of yarn. He spent the weekend playing games on it and "charging" it. It was adorable, but definitely highlighted the generation gap!

We moved to Raleigh from New York last fall and we're really liking it. We're close to family here, so that was big for us, but we're also finally able to afford a house (closing on Tuesday!), and there is a lot of outside, family-friendly stuff to do. With 2 small kids, I will admit we haven't experienced much nightlife, so can't speak to that! I have super mixed feelings about the car culture here, after living in NYC for 13 years without a car, but our new house is .5 mile from my son's new school and a nice neighborhood park/playground, and a mile from a new mixed-use development with shops, gyms, restaurants, parks, farmer's market, etc. We made (a bit of) walkability a priority in our house search, and I think it's a pretty good mix. And the weather is delightful!

Lovely! I especially love the teal and red together. Do you know what color the dresser is? I'd love to paint my daughter's nightstand a similar color.
