I couldn't scan through 183 comments to see if this question has already been posed, but can Faith or anyone explain why the bananas have to be frozen first and then blended? Can't I go straight to blending fresh bananas?

I have a question. Do kitchens sinks, bathroom sinks, and bathtubs that are built decades earlier need less cleaning than newly built ones? That's what I'm noticing in my new apartment. My apartment hasn't been renovated since at least 1980 and I'm noticing that no grime or mildew has built up even though I've lived in it for 3 months now and I'm not the most stringent about cleaning it. In contrast, my parents' house was renovated in 2003 and almost immediately we had to clean the sinks and tubs every week because grime and mildew started piling up.

Am I just pulling my theory out of thin air or is there some truth to this?

Well then I'm not sure what this post is getting at anymore because as far as I know, renting a house is no different from renting an apartment because why would you fix up a rental house? I thought this post was comparing owning a home vs owning an apartment.

Living in an Apartment Means Never Having to Do Anything

I moved from a house to an apartment just 3 months ago and the biggest pluses for me are: 1) never having to shovel snow or raking leaves again, 2) never worrying about renovating any kind of exterior, 3) having the building be in charge of security, 4) seeing incredible sunsets every evening from my 4th floor apartment, and 5) building a small window-based garden that I can actually manage.

There are downsides, too: 1) I still have to renovate my outdated, 1930's kitchen and bathroom, 2) invest in rugs to reduce floor noise which I never had to do in a house, and 3) not having a private washing machine and dryer.

But yea, apartment living is perfect for me at this stage in my life when I have no kids and all I want to do is have the free time to engage in my hobbies.

I don't mean to be snarky or sassy when I say that this already exists and it's called your local Chinese supermarket, your local Mexican grocery store, your local Kosher produce store, and your local West Indian/Jamaican market. This idea is only hip and eco-chic for industrialized (and I'm not afraid to say, often White) shoppers who have eaten packaged foods for way too long. I came to the U.S. when I was eight and it took me a long time to understand why American supermarkets sold produce wrapped in plastic and in amounts that I could not choose.

I really appreciate everyone's feedback. My anxiety could not simply be resolved by "people's opinions vs what I like" because the truth of the matter was that I was in a rush and I did not know what I liked. I was attracted to the white because it was bright and clean but also felt that white reminded me of a "grandma's kitchen" as one commenter noted. Just by reading the comments, I've learned to see white as having a timeless beauty and I'm grateful for that.

Thanks all!
