How about a colorful Kilim (or an easy-to-care-for indoor/outdoor rug or a sisal rug, if you are more into neutrals) on top of those terracotta tiles, instead of that sad little mat? I second the art gallery idea. Maybe a very small wall-mounted shelf underneath that mirror (check the AT January cure for the post on "landing strips"). A slightly taller (and greener) plant under that window. Painting the inside of door in a fun color like Ngallo58 suggested also sounds like a good idea. The mirror seems to have a bamboo frame, you could paint it as well and match the color of the door. Good luck!

I have never actually tried to dye Ikea slipcovers, but if you don't like the colors / fabrics they have, you can alway try finding something you love at Bemz. They sell made to measure covers for all kind of Ikea furniture and have a range of 100+ fabrics. It's a Swedish website, but they ship worldwide. I bought some striped cotton covers to freshen up an old Ektorp sofa, and they fit like a glove. I also bought new linen covers for a set of Nils chairs - super pretty as well. Good luck!
