Really beautiful place -- but someone PLEASE proofread. My eyes started bleeding after reading about the "deferent" cultures and how LA living is "effecting" her style.

This is information I have needed for a while and wasn't too optimistic with that Hamptons post starting things off.

So thanks a million thill for sharing your resource. Craigslist has been generally pretty good, but some cities (e.g. Portland, OR) sometimes don't have very many offerings. I saw tons of possibilities for my favorite cities on airbnb.

Contemporary architecture and design in Paris always felt like a breath of fresh air to me in the middle of all the Haussmann-tricity. I loved, loved, loved La Defense and Parc de la Vilette for that reason. The school I attended, Universite de Paris VIII - St. Denis in the northern suburbs, also went through a gorgeous transformation several years ago.

Oh, I think ther are good reasons why MCM is such a coveted style, even by us non-hipsters. This house is one example. Beautifully done, Jenn.

Hope this isn't too cynical, but what seriously does it for me is that the place isn't THAT bad. I've lived through the highs-and-lows of apartment/house-hunting in San Francisco long enough to be realistic about what's good enough. The deal-sealers for the most recent move: 1) private washer and dryer; 2) hardwood floors (mostly--although the non-hardwood areas are heartbreakingly ugly); 3) landlords whom I actually like; and 4) location in a decent elementary-school district (I know, I know! Hadn't ever had to take THAT into consideration before).

I LOVE how seriously you bibliophiles are taking your shelving systems!

To prepare for my Ph.D qualifying exams in American literature, I arranged the 400 books I needed to read in chronological order of publication date -- Hawthorne on the same shelf as Melville; Fitzgerald adjacent to Hemingway, etc.

I read and re-read the books in order. During the exams, whenever I needed to cite examples of books from a narrow, historic timeframe or write about a particular author's contemporaries, I would visualize my bookcases and tried to remember which books were placed where.
