I make "sweet" hummus by omitting salt, pepper, and lemon juice, and instead using honey and cinnamon in my mashed garbanzo beans.

I do the same thing with boiled and mashed sweet potatoes. I add a little vanilla soy or almond milk to smooth it out with some honey and then spices like cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I add crushed pecans too.

Sometimes I wrap both mixtures in egg roll wrappers and bake or fry it like little pie pockets.

Both dips are great with granny smith apples.

This post was right on time. Just last night I was working on organizing and decided today to browse to see if I could get any ideas from AT. And wah-lah!

I have not "finished" the "dressing room" of my bedroom because I'm still struggling with shoe--specifically boot--storage (toastercat I feel your pain).

I'm thinking the bookshelf idea might be a good solution. Since my collection isn't as exciting as the one in the photo, I might do what I did with my "accessories" book shelf--put a tension rod in the lip and hang a pretty curtain.

I spent two weeks in the Central West End--on the WashU campus.

For a person who still hasn't narrowed down what it is she really wants in the place where she will settle down, St. Louis became a contender in those short two weeks. I explored the Loop way more than an adult with any sense of decorum maybe should, took long walks around Forest Park which, I agree, can't be beat for one stop shopping--a zoo, a museum, beautiful trails--and I admired the architecture of the neighborhood, imagining which I would choose (or could afford) if I settled there.

I've been on both sides of this issue.

I know from experience living this experiment is far different from doing it in a petri dish for all the reasons others have already listed.

And like many have suggested before me: I know that ignorance is not *always* part of the equation when deciding to eat more whole/healthy but that lack of access or resources like TJs and farmer's mkts that *do* accept food benefits is a factor that bears serious consideration.

I'm having a hard time, though, understanding how this experiment "raises awareness." Awareness that you can buy at Whole Foods and still eat cheap? Awareness that many family's food benefits are barely enough to sustain them? Really, people don't know that people live in such precarious situations? *shrugging* Wow...

I'm intrigued by the human body and since my home is mine, I have pictures of it posted where I find them most attractive.

I understand if visitors have different responses to it but it's my house and if you've been invited to visit it, you probably already have some idea about what you might see here--tehehe...

As pretentious as it may seem I used to write lines from my poems on my walls. I think of letters as art...

How about the Picasso quote: "Anything you can imagine is real..."

or

"Feel your way."

(both of which have appeared on my walls at one time or another)1

Green smoothies rock! I like spinach and kale in mine though kale is kind of bitter. It pairs well with a little peanut butter and banana or dark berries I've found.

...gotta try carrots--I like that idea.

I found a set of silver drums (from a deconstructed drum set) waiting by the trash bin at a house around the street; I'm using them as bedside tables. I also found a door at a house that was being rehabbed around the block and stripped and painted it to use as a dining room table/desk.

I hauled 'em home in my truck and laid them on the blanket I keep in the back for such occasions (and to keep some sand out after beach runs)!

U Haul also sometimes has leftover boxes that other people left behind on the trucks and will give those away to folks coming in for a truck or supplies...

Living Single--they made having roommates seem so cool. I wanted neighbors like Kyle and Overton to chill with...come to think of it: I liked Kyle and Overton's place better than the girls'...I also liked Mona's decor (especially the coffee table/trunk) on Half and Half. In more than a few ways our design sensibility is parallel.
