I made this last night and while it took a little bit of time, I put that on me, not the recipe. Tasted great! Fantastic second day lunch!

I love Nara! They did a show of his work at the San Jose Museum of Art years ago, while it was still free, and I picked up this Black Guard Angel (which my 3 year old sister renamed "Ladybug") and she's been in my car ever since. I was even her for Halloween!

At Sugar Cafe in San Francisco, I had a few bites of my friend's Raspberry Lambic Float with chocolate ice cream and it was fantastic.

Happy to see that I'm not alone in my beet hatred. Many people have said to me "you just haven't had them the right way." People don't understand - I've never even HAD canned/bottled/other container beets. My parents LOVED fresh beets and treated them like royalty, in many different ways, so I know I've had them the best they can be. They still taste like dirt.

There's only been one way I liked them: they were matchstick cut in a salad. I could have just a tiny bit in a bite, and that was palatable.

Another beet hater here.

I'm the only one in my family who doesn't adore them, and I've tried time and time again, but they just taste like dirt. Which is odd, because there's other dirty flavors that I love (mushrooms, for example). But I just can't get into beets.

Luckily, I found a nice guy who also hates them. In fact, we first bonded over our mutual hatred of beets and Pink Floyd.

You can make some fancy sandwiches, with the right ingredients and presentation. My friend takes whole loaves of ciabatta, then layers on beautiful ingredients, and then cuts it into manageable pieces, and lays them on a nicely decorated platter. She always makes one veggie. It's so lovely.

Well done, le sacre. Somehow I knew it was you even before I got to the bathroom. Your place is beautiful!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a substitute for umebochi vinegar? I have all the other ingredients!

Curry powder! I melt butter in the saucepan I just made the popcorn in, while it still has residual heat, and throw in the curry powder and roll it around for thirty seconds or so. Then I toss the popcorn between the saucepan and the bowl, and it coats everything pretty evenly so I don't have to get my hands TOO dirty. A dusting of kosher salt and I am a happy happy girl.

Anyone else completely distracted by the supersh*ts in the middle of the picture? Right above the Activia, too.

That said, I'm terrible about cleaning my fridge as well. Luckily I rarely have spillable things in there, so a glance in will look pretty clean (a few leaves from greens seem to always show up, even if I don't have any in the house).

I'm sad that my egg holder is not a good idea - it's so handy!

I have Ikea plates that are square with rounded edges and haven't had any problems with snags or breaks (I also lack a dishwasher, so that probably factors in). I find them totally suitable for dinner and presentation and since they're plain white, don't feel dated or trendy.

HCVMama hit some extremely important nails on the head, but the one that I think the most about is #5: there are a LOT of shops in SF that fall under the umbrella of mid-range homewares. If you could find a particular niche that could put your shop above the others, awesome! Otherwise, I'd be wary in a saturated market.

I try to find the line with the most unhappy looking men in it, because they don't make small talk and just want to get out of there.

Past that, it's a delicate balance of number of people and number of items. Though after reading that article, now I know not to count on a long line of people with one item!

I had some problems last year; I live in SF, but next to some nice open space. I put all my food in containers (some of which still bear tiny scratch marks), set traps, etc. It helped, but they were still around. Then I got Jack, my cat, and within a month caught one (and left it in the middle of the living room for me). And then they were GONE. There hasn't been a trace of a mouse in the eight months I've had him.

Yes! I just made this, with extra asparagus, since fiddleheads are rare and expensive on the West Coast, and it is delicious. It's the first risotto I've ever made, and I'm no longer scared!
