Completely get how you fell in love with the windows and had to have this dappled light aerie.

You rock Iqaluit! How're the walls? Superinsulated and surprisingly warm?

Meant to add... I'd actually suggest that if your baseball-wielding son is 10 or over, that he learn how to do these repairs! lol

Hey Meredith, if I come over to replace and repair the broken panes can I stay the weekend? Hahha. Seriously, I learned how to do broken window pane repairs (aka. glazing repairs) a few years ago when we bought our place.
It's well worthwhile and relatively easy... on a difficulty scale of 1 to 5, it's gotta be a 2 at the most. It's almost fun, in fact. Appreciating it afterwards is the best part!

Beautiful! And what a great solution to rapacious wildlife, especially the fat groundhog in my backyard! I'd like to see him hoist himself up one of those salad walls... hahahaha!

Some wonderful ideas above. Ice-cubes in the hair/ freezipops in various items of clothing or bedding / curtaining out the sun's warming rays / cross-ventilating / using a fan ...

"Real" flax-based linen sheet-sets are pretty wonderful too.

Only 700 sq ft and the man has 2 sofas (ok, a loveseat and a ... loveseat... both perfectly sized)... and it works! Just how many chairs do you have? I think this is just great.

We have a small galley kitchen with predictably limited storage; fell for a handsome lacquered Chinese cabinet ( A-line in form) which now holds oversized dishware and a mini-bar, to name just two uses, and sits quietly in our dining room. Very easy on the eyes.
Like many others, I can't say enough about those Ikea kitchen butcher blocks on wheels.

Also, in at least the first two images, the fabric used appears to be real flax linen... with its great wicking and drying properties... important, I'd guess, in Italy.

Love the effect of this relatively low-budget make-over. I really like the soft blue-grey kitchen with shiny backsplash tiles. Hmmm.

I've used the "pour-over" method, modified, for a decade. But I've never had the patience for the bloom and top-up pour. However, my coffee's excellent (to my mind, at any rate). Why not try the 30-second pour-over method too? What've you got to lose, but 1 cup of coffee, if you don't like it? Sometimes things could be simpler yet.

I hear you, Waiting for Gateau, because I'd be that person... the one who would ask if somebody else would Please sit in the middle.

On the other hand, the fact that the middle person has to stay put could be used strategically. For keeping a rambuctious 3 year old at the table and between his parents, or the like.

Another huge advantage that banquettes offer is that they offer seating within a small footprint... no 3-4 foot deep space required behind one, as would be nice to have with chairs.

"Repurposing cabinets" is a great tip, too.

Galleys are working kitchens... ever so practical when the cook actually cooks. True, it's not an entertainment space, but sometimes that's a good thing. Guess I'm a bit of a control freak. LOL

Love the greenery outside the window of #1 and the mystery "come into the light!" of #7.

Gee, you know... I have nothing, and yet I AM very proud of Ottawa. May not have been born here, but it feels like Home to me. Hmmmm.... what to put up? A Beavertail?

Ottawa's pretty safe (Ontario, Canada). I've always opened the door. That said, we live on a lively street, and know alot of our neighbours. Still, I should get a peephole installed, too. Chain? Maybe. Maybe not.

I have an attic bedroom too, and they've been smarter than me by far... the armoire is the thing that needs the height, not the sleepers.
Time to re-work at my place. That is soooo appealing!

I find you're absolutely right, especially about light, Maxwell. I sleep so much better since putting a blackout blind over my loft window. Wasn't even a big window either, and it faced North!
