I have to disagree with the parents who think this needs a railing. It's not very high, and most kids are certainly bright enough not to "roll off" of it. As kids, we frequently built platforms like this, much higher than this. My daughter was 30 feet up in a tree top at age 4, and I never once feared for her safety, because I took the time to talk with her about it.

Certainly if people have children who are super accident-prone, then rail it. But this looks like it's only about 4-5 feet off the ground. I would leave it, and let her have the open perch. Imagine the fun of jumping off into snow piles, or leaf piles!

Just my two cents. All parents are different, and we all have to do what we are comfortable with for our own children. : )

Ditto on all the above comments: Absolutely fantastic place. I have bright orange dining room walls as well, and get a TON of compliments on them. I love the way they make me feel - like every meal is a celebration.

This is a beautiful home -- thanks ever so much for sharing it with us all, Steven.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this cabin! No, it doesn't look like a shed - just a great, creative space. And love the rebar idea --- can you post/send some closer-up photos of that? I think of Rebar as white or yellow. Yours looks.... brown? Did you paint it or buy it that color?
