My kid's parties are well thought out, I spend time putting them together, and kids are free to explore through several planned activities. All because we enjoy it. I love celebrating the day each year. It is like our family's own national holiday. And I enjoy this post's ideas for an ice cream social. Life is too short not to celebrate life they way you want. There are many lessons to learn to event planning if you want to get technical. ;)

Breakfast nook is sky blue, no wonder nobody likes what I cook. ;)

Black beans will turn water blue. Soak them. Not sure would taste good, though. :P Or squid ink.

Good idea to make meals ahead to save time & money. Nothing wrong with that! Helpful if have busy family, busy job, new baby, illness, etc. Ever heard of Super Suppers? They charge lots for this sort of thing.

These sounded great but turned out to be a nuisance. We left them at the park for somebody else to enjoy!

Maybe the kitchen was falling apart and smelly and beyond grimy. Hence the remodel. Would you keep wearing old, smelly, sole-less sneakers just because they were cool & classic? Kudos to the remodel. People have budgets to keep so if big box helps, so be it!

All babies should be warmly welcomed. "Sip & Sees" are common here if subsequent births. If you disagree on many levels, I second the tip to decline invite. Simple. If a friend, wouldn't you want to celebrate her happiness instead of getting in a huff about it?
