I'm thinking I'll be tackling our kitchen pantry. Organizing that will actually take care of a few things on my list. The pantry is an unorganized mess partly because of bulk purchases from Costco. So, I'm planning on separating the Costco stuff into usable portions and getting the pantry usable. So 2 birds, 1 stone! uhh ... Turns out i've had an outbox for 3 months now. It's our guest room/office. It's full of stuff that just hasn't found a home AND furniture that doesn't quite go anywhere else. I haven't tackled our closets or dressers yet, but that was on my project list from yesterday. I did turn all my hangers around so that I'll be able to keep track of what I actually wear. I feel like that's a pretty good first step. I'm not going to lie. I'm terrified of the day we're supposed to clean out our outboxes! Day 2: Set Up Your Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure |

We moved into our house in August, so we've been going crazy unpacking and setting up house. Going through each room made me realize how much more I wanted to get done! I'm trying really hard not to be overwhelmed since we looked at big and small things to change. For example I HATE our bedroom furniture (I've had it for 10 years and it's seen better days), but we don't have the money at the moment to go out and buy all brand new furniture. So while I added get new bedroom furniture to my list, I also made sure to purge the stuff in the dressers, and organize the stuff on top of it. Hopefully that can help me live with it for now. I don't understand how to do these paper globes in picture #1. I've had these things before and I like the lighting they put off, but the cords! How can I do something like this without all the ugly cords everywhere? Unconventional Ideas for Bedroom Lighting |

One resolution I'm making is to not buy things unless they are truly needed and/or high quality. As much as I love having seasonal decorations, it's crazy for me to spend lots of money on stuff that will only be out for one month at a time. My boyfriend and I found the most amazing couch at Crate and Barrel (the Lounge series), so we're trying to save up money for that. No matter how cute that little Christmas penguin is, it's not as awesome as that couch! 5 Home Resolutions to Make for the New Year |

I know lots of people say that pets help liven up a home. Some people don't have time OR have apartments that don't allow pets. I totally agree that pets can make your mood better, so why not volunteer? I know this doesn't make your living space less depressing, but I know hanging out with dogs and cats always puts me in a better mood. There are a lot of rescue places that let people walk dogs and play with animals. 5 Simple Ways to Make Your House Less Depressing |

Is it legal for them to be calling at 4 am? I thought it was 8 am-9 pm in the time zone that the customer lives in. No matter how mean their phone call was, it would be nothing compared to the one I'd have with anyone calling me at 4 am spewing threats and general meanness. My first Halloween not in an apartment complex, I was really excited to see kids dressed up. Growing up in the middle of the country (about 2 miles from the closest town of 900), we never had trick or treaters. Then I moved to the city, turned on my porch light and waited for little witches and ghouls. I got a few adorable kids, but I'm pretty sure I got more teenagers. And they didn't even have on costumes! So from that point on I quit turning my light on. Am I crazy in thinking that once you reach a certain age, you shouldn't be trick or treating? i attempted hanging floating shelves in my apartments and wound up with giant holes in my walls. I have old plaster walls which barely allow me to put a nail in them, let alone wall anchors. i love my apartment, but i wish i had drywall. Ledges & Shallow Shelves: Hanging Art Without Commitment |

my old roommate insisted on the scrubbing bubbles shower thing. i hated it. it basically gets the upper part of your shower clean. it does nothing for soap scum in the tub part. call me crazy, but i'll get some bathroom cleaner and a rag and clean the tub once a week. 4 Pieces Of Home Automation We Could Do Without |

$700 a month for a 2 bedroom in St. Louis. I have a fenced in backyard that i share with my landlords who live upstairs (definite bonus). They updated everything right before I moved in, so it's basically a brand new apartment. We're getting new windows in October. It's in a great area in the city, close to groceries and Target. 15 minutes from work ... I couldn't ask for a better place! Survey: How Much Is Your Monthly Rent or Mortgage? |

there is a wonderful place in st louis called bailey's chocolate bar. they have a beer milkshake and it's FABULOUS! they use the young's chocolate stout, but it tastes like they use a cinnamon ice cream. i really thought it would be gross, but it's delicious. i think it would be a deal-breaker for me. as the child of parents who both smoked (and one who died of lung cancer) i've become sensitive to it and just over all have issues with smoking. I understand that people have a right to smoke. If I owned a rental property you can be sure I'd make my property non-smoking. The additional cleaning and upkeep seems like it wouldn't be worth allowing smoking. Should Smokers Downstairs Be a Deal Breaker? Good Questions |

i'm the same way. i don't live well out of boxes and chaos. my last move was a nightmare though. my ex-roommate never fully unpacked, while i had all of my stuff unpacked and put away within a few days she just let stuff sit around. by then end of 2 weeks i told her she needed to do something with the boxes sitting around. another 2 weeks and i moved her stuff to the basement. i'm just a little neurotic with organization and cleanliness.
