A friend of mine did a dresser-turned-vanity transformation and I want to try it myself. He didn't put a hard surface like tile or marble on the top - instead, he put two coats of decking sealer (?) on the wood and he says it's waterproof and hard as nails. My memory here isn't so good, though. Could it be boating/mariner/somethingoranother sealer? Anyone? I will ask. Anyway, it sounded hardcore.

I'm a guy and pink is one of my favorite colors to decorate with. I love a very, very pale pink wall color especially. Everyone looks great in it. Hot pink is, well, hot also. Pink, pink, pink, pink, pink, pink, pink, pink. And pink again.

I admit this freely to anyone who will listen. I'll also tell you that sometimes I sit down to pee because, well, I'm too tired to stand. Or I need to think. Try it sometime.

DO NOT do what "akay" suggested (which is to pay for it yourself, deduct it from the rent, and mail the receipt to the landlord) unless you want to face eviction for not paying your rent. A lease is a contract and window washing isn't in that contract I presume. Even if your situation involved a major inconvenience (like the heating or ac going out) you still should never do this. If anyone has ever gotten away with it then there are ten people like them who haven't, maybe more. I know akay suggested this as the third and final step, but it is absolutely horrible advice. It will likely incense your landlord, who might (probably) have a mortgage to pay on the property.

Vinegar and water work wonders.

I disagree with you about cordless drills. They're a pain in the arse unless you have the funds to buy the absolute best. Also, and I know this from owning the best of the best, you STILL need to have a backup battery for when the already-in-use-battery runs outa juice and you're mid-project. And they still have to be replaced eventually. And charged. Which means a cord.

So, yes I love my cordless drill and backup battery. In fact, I have two drills and four batteries (Hitachi and Dewalt, both 18v). But, I think that a first-time buyer would be better advised to put his or her money in a fabulous corded drill with lots of features and torque. Once he or she gets used to it and perhaps finds that absolutely everything in the house/yard needs to be screwed in some way for years to come, then he or she can purchase a cordless model. That's how I started. The best part - the corded model is the one you can loan out to your friends : )

i'm 35 years old and i've never participated in the black friday shakedown. every year it gets more out of control than the last.

i like to spend the day gathering supplies to make my gifts, ie checking to make sure i have plenty of ink left in the printer, and narrowing down the project list from the dozens i've saved on my computer (thanks at!).

everything about #5 speaks to me in a very good way. i love the restraint and the spare treatment of everything, from the tucked in comforter to the lack of anything directly over the center of the bed to the almost shapelessness of the two gray pillows.

#1 needs a keen editor. the barcelona chair just vanishes. for me i think i would want to strip the wallpaper off of every wall save one. maybe. and if the chair is to remain at the foot of the bed, something needs to happen to differentiate the two (color-wise).

i second and third the "have it made" comments above. maybe i'm spoiled, but where i live we have amish and mennonite cabinet makers that will produce the most stunning furniture you've ever seen, and it's solid as a rock. also, they don't gouge you on price. the best way to find them is in the yellow pages, or word of mouth.

(lol i'm sure there are producers other than amish and mennonite, that's just what i know in my area.)
