I used to have a large pencil cactus that I decorated with red pepper lights. Everyone who saw it was delighted! I'd say it qualified as an alternative Christmas Tree.

I had a case of shingles recently and did not want to take any drugs. Fortunately, I found that hydrogen peroxide was great for drying the rash and soothing the pain.

I have recently returned from a trip to Montreal and they have a very similar program called BIXI. It appears to be very successful. One evening I happened to see the bicycle traffic hour (around 5 p.m.) and noticed that most of the riders were using the public BIXI bikes.

I have quite a bit of experience with riding an electric bike. I bought a Japanese model when I lived in Honolulu and really enjoyed it for a few months. You can pedal or use the electric boost, which is great for going up hills. But then the battery began to hold less and less time after charging. I was unable to find a battery replacement and the shop that sold me the bicycle was no help at all. Be sure, if you purchase one of these, that someone gives you information about replacing the battery. I think I had a defective one. So, my electric bike turned into a folding bike with an electric boost that lasted only about 40 minutes max. Without the electric boost, I found the bike to be very difficult to ride.
