I lived with my husband for nearly 20 years, got divorced and lived alone for six and just had my boyfriend move in. My personal preference is having someone to talk to, to share with the chores and expenses and to fall asleep with. It is STILL taking some getting used to, but it helps keep me from falling into rabbit holes on the computer, and other bad habits that solitude bred in me. Gotta disagree about staying at home too much - we're always out and about.

first thing that came to mind, round mirror. I picture a large round mirror with no frame, and with that shabby antique look (like mercury glass)...that would look cool!

In my office, which I can't easily get painted, I have large pieces of brightly colored fabric (reused from an event I did) hanging from floor to ceiling...it makes a huge impact and is removable. Also, there's all that vinyl and other temporary wall stuff that is pretty cool.

Making a sunken bed - I can just feel the skin scraping off of my fingers...yow!

I have nearly the same fantasy about my old bed, but know that it would look crappy (too bulky, etc. What my compromise will probably be is to just get a simple bed frame with no headboard....that would work in my particular room, anyway.

How about a ficus?
