Thanks, Faith! I followed your instructions and accompanied the chicken with a roasted red pepper sauce. It was lovely and will surely become a staple.

Lol, pigeon poop comes to mind for me too. It'd be a lovely decoration for a leafless tree though, even in the city, especially in a grouping.

Agreed @SewTrashy, holiday decorating with limited space can be a hassle. I limit my Halloween decor to one storage box and Christmas to two. I plan seasonal decorating around our storage limits. We use papercuts that can be stored flat for Halloween. I also buy things that won't be stored like fresh pumpkins (currently $2.99 at Trader Joe's) for Halloween and fresh garlands for Christmas.

bethy2183, the classic space-dye tights that I bought from the Missoni for Target collection are 68% cotton, 25% nylon, and 7% spandex. No polyester involved. They look and feel great.

reclaimedspaces, some of the Missoni for Target line matches the quality of Missoni couture. I've worn Missoni couture. It is also real Missoni, albeit, much more affordable Missoni.

Congrats on the pouf! I would've picked that up if we had a place for it. Our local Target was cleared out of Missoni on launch day morning, so I went online to purchase some clothing, the umbrella, and some pillows. The Famiglia one-piece bathing suit is fabulous as is the Polo Dress. The fabric quality is just great. The pentagonal 'Patchwork' pillow set, however, will be returned. The material is just a bit too flimsy for me. I'm still waiting on a few items like the umbrella, stockings, and socks. I agree that sizing runs a bit big. Overall, what a great line!

I made a batch last night. DH declared this toffee as better than See's! I used our white enameled Le Creuset which, along with keeping the savory flavors at bay, helped me judge color and when to pull it off of the stove.

SF lady, perhaps you should've cooked it a bit longer? I had butter foam for awhile, but it eventually disappeared as I continued to stir. Or perhaps your brand of butter is the issue? I always bake with Challenge unsalted.

Thanks so much for sharing this great family recipe, Sara Kate!

I was wondering about an unwanted savory element too. I think I'll use my enameled Le Creuset pot rather than our heavily seasoned iron skillet for this recipe.

I learned the hard way that you don't want to make candied things in wet weather. Humidity can be an issue. What I did was put my soggy candied nuts in the oven at a very low temperature to get them to dry out. It worked.

Yum! Thanks, Sara-Kate. I'll definitely be trying this recipe.

I just finished my special project, sanding the poly finish off of our butcher block kitchen cart. What an improvement. I keep doing a double take every time I enter the kitchen. :-)

We're hosting a big dinner party next month which I'm starting to plan for. We might host something a bit more intimate earlier on during the holiday season as well if time allows.

Thanks, Kitchn, for a great Cure!

Kitchen Project

All of the interiors of my cabinets, fridge, oven, and freezer are clean, but I still need to do a deep clean of the kitchen surfaces.

A new, rimmed baking sheet has been ordered. I also bought and used some oyster sauce for an Asian eggplant recipe which turned out well.

I'm now remembering that I need to purchase some pumpkin pie spice for a few recipes. So far, so good!

Day 10: Make List of Top 6 Home Needs
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/29/10 6:18 PM

Frankly, I'm getting a bit sad to see the very same items on my list for far too long. It's delayed decision-making, to be honest. My list:

1) Re-upholster the dining room chairs.
2) Frame a piece of art.
3) Buy a new office desk.
4) Hang an entryway coat rack.
5) Do SOMETHING to our kitchen floors or cover them.
6) Strip and sand the poly from our kitchen cart.

Depending on weather, I will work on #2 or #6 this week.

All caught up here and also quite well-stocked as we cook at home almost every day.

I do need a rimmed baking sheet, so I'll be shopping for that along with some oyster sauce that I need for a recipe this week.

Special projects? Almost forgot! I want to strip the crappy poly job on my John Boos cart and keep it unfinished with mineral oil or beeswax.

I'm so happy to be on the other side of the cabinet cleaning.

Thanks for the expandable C+B tray info, @smellykelly!

I'm letting go of one of those pasta measuring devices too, Emma. There wasn't too much to let go of this time around. It was more about organizing and cleaning. I'm also trying out a food container method where the lids are attached rather than floating about. It definitely takes up more space, but the searching aspect is diminished. We'll see how that goes. Anyway, I'm now done with Assignment 2. Yay.

I use full strength Simple Green to cut through kitchen grease, @WriterSarah.

@Loora, we use a kitchen cart to store our extra appliances as we also have limited countertop space.

I'm at seven cabinets/drawers in with nine more to go.

Hm, interesting, Killdeer Farm. I knew about the potato and onion situation, but not the carrot and apple one. There is more produce storage advice here:

A friend of mine gave me a nice tip. If you have a vegetable drawer which is adjustable for humidity, set it on low for the produce with thicker skins and then create microclimates with bags for the greens.
