I completely agree about not having too much stuff. Our daughter is 9 months now and I tried to be minimal.

The best advice I can give is that you don't know what will happen except that you will have a baby, who comes with lots of needs. The night we brought our daughter home, my husband got a horrible stomach flu and ended up having to go back to the hospital himself! I was so grateful we had a prepared nursery with some clothes, some diapers, some blankets and a crib. I fully expected having a hand that first night and when it was unexpectedly taken it was nice to be prepared!

While it's already been said, unquestionably vertical storage and built ins. Shelves are pretty easy to put in and increase functionality by a lot. Also, small appliances and small pots and pans make a huge difference.

LOVE this concept, but the picture posted doesn't do it justice. Saw a kitchen on a home tour where it was seamless and amazing.

Between my husband and I, we get about 12 subscriptions. So no, we don't keep them all. We bought our mid-century modern house a year ago, so I've been keeping all copies of Atomic Ranch and some Dwell. I also keep some Food & Wine. I graduated with a degree in landscape architecture, so I keep all those very organized, to stay current in what's going on. While sometimes it's hard to recycle them, I rarely go back to most of what we subscribe to.

I think it's "more responsible" but not really green. The size and location (it looks private and not in a walkable/bike friendly area) prohibit it from being the most responsible choice. Also, new construction isn't going to be as sustainable ever as purchasing an existing house and making it green. It is beautiful though!

We bought a house with an exposed tub and have never, ever used it. We are planning a big remodel in the near future. It looks pretty, but just not practical or desirable. I agree with everyone despite having one!

Get a dog! Mine has been cuddled up to me for the past 12 hours and cried when I got up to eat. I'm so warm with her on me!

I second the getting rid of the blinds. Replacing them with color appropriate draperies will make a world of difference. And, not to offend, cleaning up the space will make it feel brighter. Also, a new faucet (under $50) may make the whole kitchen feel newer.
