So many Whole Food haters.
Too bad every business person I patron isnt in lock step with all my political beliefs. Im sure Wegman's etc and the Amish farmers are totally on board for universal healthcare.

Great to know that $99 can buy so much. A pantry definitely needs more than this but this is great. At $94 you could've added their $6 basic olive oil. It's cheapest olive oil I've found as is their butter at $2.80 lb( not organic but hormone free) as is their store brand grated parmesan under $3.

1 month!?!
Not my style BUT I can appreciate this as I grew up with a Caribbean mother whose taste is very similar to yours but whose style never quite evolved to this level. Congrats on a lovely home. I'd feel very at home here. LOVE LOVE LOVE the closet!

The Legendary Hunters boots are no longer made in the UK. They're made in China now. Once upon a time they were worth the price. Now? Not so much. Are they better than $20 pay less rubbers? Yup. But probably not REALLY worth more than the $50-70 price point. Google is your friend and there is a brand of wellies, still european made, that I believe pick up where Hunters sadly left off.

@c.vertoka: You must not be New Yorker. They live on the Upper East Side. Nuff said. Sure they could afford a larger apartment A MUCH larger one, but obviously the UES must be important to them. That's at least a $3000 a month apartment.
My beloved Brooklyn is now the 2nd most expensive place in the country after sister borough Manhattan. I 'hate' the people who are ruining Brooklyn. "Go Brooklyn" just doesn't mean what it used to mean.

hmmm organic modern...
Wasn't this called "earthy modern" just 5 years ago? Is this USDA certified organic modern or just made with organic ingredients modern?
I still prefer earthy modern though.

I think folks are focusing a little too much on the picture. The picture isn't the point of the article. The article inspired me to run to Walmart and get some spoons because apparently my kids eat spoons and I sadly only had 3. Im a minimalist and my concept of enough differs greatly from say, my mother's or Martha Stewart's. I'll never have a formal dining room set with the china for display as I like simple plain white dishes. But, I like having enough of whatever it is I need and like.

In Cleveland, Whole Foods,Heinen's Zagara's have the best quality for the price. The Westside Market can be iffy with the produce, depending on the vendor; I've bought fruits that I thought were a steal only to have them spoil in 2 days. The other stores like Giant Eagle &Dave's appear to be cheaper but really are not when you compare quality. Unless there is a very good sale I don't even bother with those stores. Zagara's is a small family store similar to Heinen's that is so underrated. Its 5 meats for $20 is the best deal going but its just a slight notch under Heinen's in terms of overall quality. Trader Joes is over rated. Their diary is more expensive than Whole Foods( here in Cleveland) and most of what they have is processed.

Is the plate better visually than the pyramid? i think so. Is it conceptually better than the pyramid? i think so.
I also think its very possible for health and nutrition professionals to take "the plate" and adjust it for a diabetic, vegan or lactose intolerant individual by manipulating a proportions.
So in theory there could be several versions of a healthy plate depending on the needs of the individual.
This is a very good and actually DOABLE "plate" for the average person transitioning from the SAD.
