Consider saving up to get a small portable dishwasher to stash somewhere (like this one: http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/DDW1805W.html) on your own, outside of the landlord's budget. You can take it with you when you move. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Can This Kitchen Be Renovated on a Budget of $2800? |

I have a vintage glove form for necklaces, a vintage cake plate for earrings, a small covered bowl for rings and pins, and a very simple white box for bracelets. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | How Do You Organize Accessories? |

I used an old glove form for my necklaces, an old tiered cake plate for my earrings, and my rings/pins and bracelets have their own small boxes. I used to do the picture frame thing, but it was just for earrings. Instead of plywood I just had some mesh-y fabric that I stuck the earrings through. Yeah, I just developed my food allergies in the last year and it's been really hard to adjust to. I also swell up and can't breathe. Fruit was basically my favorite thing to eat until last summer (and the tasty, healthy, fast way to satisfy my sweet tooth). All the best chocolate desserts are have hazelnuts in them. Actually, my showstopper dessert is a hazelnut torte, something I will never make again I guess. It is a dome-shaped hazelnut cake lined with chocolate ganache and then filled with amaretto whipped cream and raspberries. I used to bake that whenever I wanted something impressive for guests, and for my best friend's birthday every year. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Tell Us: Do You Have Food Allergies? |

I have oral allergy syndrome. I can't eat raw strawberries, peaches, nectarines, apples, pears, cherries, figs, or hazelnuts in any form (raw/cooked). I can eat any of those fruits cooked, even cooked for even a short time. I add more and more fruit to the off-limits list as time goes on. Basically, I can't eat any fruit (raw) that's grown locally. If I want fruit I can have melon or tropical-climate fruit. Or pie! Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Tell Us: Do You Have Food Allergies? |

I am currently living without a kitchen due to a never-ending renovation (it's been 6 months now, don't ask) and I love to cook. My savior has been my Cuisinart countertop brick oven. I have had dinner parties using only this appliance. There are 3 models. I have the middle one with convection, but no rotisserie. It's fabulous. I can broil, roast a whole chicken, bake a pie, anything I can do in a full-size oven (but sometimes smaller). It is brick-lined and comes with a baking stone for even baking. And when (if?) the endless renovation is finally complete, the countertop oven will still be endlessly useful as a warming oven for dinner parties or a something to use in the summer when a full-size oven will heat up my apartment too much. I highly recommend it. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Good Question: Best Hot Plate for Tiny Kitchen? |

The secret to eggplants is to salt and drain them first. Otherwise they stay full of bitter juice. Lay out slices of eggplant in a single layer, salt them heavily and let them sit and drain for an hour or so. Then rinse and pat dry. You can use a colander for draining purposes, but I find it easiest to put the slices on a cutting board and then boost up one side of the board (with whatever's around and a few inches high) so that the board is at an angle and drains the bitter juice into the sink. I'm going through this right now in a crumbling prewar coop in Queens. It's been a rental since 1929, if that's any indication of the condition it's in. The nice part about it is that all its original everything is intact - all the floors, moulding, fixtures, etc. On the other hand, I've been living out of boxes and without a stove for 10 months now and have become a lead paint expert. I'm not sure if I'd do this again, now that I understand everything that's involved. But I'd never be able to afford this apartment in mint condition, and that's what it's going to look like after my 1-2 years of labor. I recently went through a long search for a nice, large wardrobe as the closet in my bedroom is pretty small. It wouldn't have been big enough for me anyways, so my boyfriend uses the whole thing, and I went on a hunt for a wardrobe. I ended up buying an antique deco-y one on ebay. I couldn't see it first as it was in Oklahoma (I live in New York), but it turned out splendidly. It was $600 (with the freight shipping and delivery) and it looks beautiful. I also think Oranges are pretty delicious - and not especially difficult to eat. Since they come in their own wrapper they're convenient and easy to shove into your bag for a snack-on-the-run. Apartment Therapy The Kitchen | Good Eats: Rate Your Fruit Choice on Taste and Difficulty |

You could put up a shower curtain on a ceiling track around the two open sides of the tub (like for an old-style clawfoot tub) to keep it separate. My old studio had a very tiny bathroom with no sink and I used the bathtub as my washing-up area instead of moving my toiletries to the kitchen sink. I had a small mirror in there and a shelf near the bathtub tab for my toothbrush and facewash and such. You'd have to bend down to rinse out your mouth, but at least it would feel like it's own "bathroom area".
