I started training my son at 12 months, and it was going well for several weeks when he completely flat out refused to use the potty. I've been trying to get him back to using it again as he's getting close to 2 and frankly, he's getting too big for me to wrangle into diapers and training pants. I've been bribing him with crayons - he draws in his notebook while on the potty. Except now it's totally backfiring and he only wants to color while sitting on it and not actually USE the thing. My mom once told me that my own potty had a little table attachment - I wish I could find something similar.

klk197 - my son is the same. Incredibly strong willed. It's a struggle.

I found that this was a great way to get my son to learn words. He knows "spoon," "sugar" and "eggs" from watching me cook and will hand me ingredients while saying their names.

My 13-month old and I are in the same situation. I got him a bunch of books by Priddy: http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=priddy+book&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=2246524331&ref=pd_sl_zny19rtj8_b

- which he sits and reads to me while I'm trying to be productive. He also has several shape sorters and bead roller-coasters (or "fast!" as he likes to call them...) I got him a few dollar store kitchenutensils that he can bang around the house, his favorite being the wire whisk. And if all else fails, 24 minutes of Yo Gabba Gabba holds his attention while I make dinner.

I've let him play with it a few times but between biting the stem, trying to run with it, smashing it into the floor, and nearly poking his eye out with it, I just need something softer for now. He's not into the windup animals - we have a few and he just shoves them aside after 15 seconds. It's a shape thing, I think... But I am intrigued by the wind up radio idea. Given his new obsession with the tv remote its right up his alley. Thanks all.

If you can afford it, a ductless mini-split system may be a good idea if you're planning to stick around your apartment for a while. (And if the co-op board allows it) We just got one for the coldest room in our house (so cold it felt like you were outside) and it makes the room nice and warm in minutes.

tikilicious: my son hated the bath at first - and I do mean HATED; his screams were out of control! He eventually grew out of it but it still takes some coaxing to get him to relax in the tub. He's 4 months now and if we splash his hands in the water and sing songs as we scrub he enjoys it a little. Just be as patient as possible and he'll outgrow this little phase.
