I didn't even know what a duvet was until about 10 years ago. Now my husband says the top sheet makes his feet feel claustrophobic so no more top sheet, just the soft duvet and we love it. It helps that we found a really soft Sferra duvet at a great price at a Tuesday Morning.

Great post, Misty. You've reminded me of a few places I haven't enjoyed yet. My current favorite is tubing down the Comal river - icy cold!

ok, thank you for the laughs. My daughter is rolling on the floor while I read these to her and she insists that I share a story of my own. A few years back we had a couch reupholstered at a little shop in a rural area. Unknown to us, the couch was returned to us along with a little stowaway mouse. Well, the next morning, the family is lazing on the couch reading the newspaper when I realize that something is crawling inside my robe. As I completely freak out, my husband is yelling, "wrap the robe tightly around you so he doesn't get out and then run outside!" Long story short, I threw off the robe, thankful that it was just my husband and daughter there, and let my husband catch the mouse. Eventually he got it outside. I am still married to him.

I love the poang chair, it is comfortable. What if you just had it recovered. Any good slipcover, seamstress or upholsterer can do it - I did. It's as simple as taking the cushions out of the cover and replacing the fabric with different fabric.

Jenny, thank you thank you for this article. I used to be addicted to macrame when it was in its prime. Your article has inspired me to break out the cord.

krpm1 - we like the Poang chair so much we have two in the library and two in another part of the house. They are incredibly comfortable and even move a bit when you sit in them. We purchased the fabric covers and then I recovered them in a striped fabric that brings in all the colors of the room. It was easier than it might sound to do this. You zip open the covers, take out the seat and back cushions, take the stitches out of the binding that holds the fabric front and back together and use everything as a pattern for the fabric you like. Stitch it back the way it was - all done. .

You also talked about your room doing quadruple duty. Actually this room is also our guest room (small house). Ceiling to floor draperies block the door and slide to the side when not in use. People generally don't stay long!

The green color is Agave #AF-420 by Benjamin Moore. I love it too. The billy bookcases are the Ikea brown-black color and the green goes great. You can't see in the picture, but I also have two Ikea poang chairs in the room. What would we do without Ikea?

I thought I'd respond to a couple of your comments. This space was my dining room and since the children are almost grown, we found that the four-person table in the kitchen was good for most of our meals but more importantly, my husband and I had no space to retreat to when the kids and their friends were in the living room. With no TV in the library, we actually talk and read and it's become my most favorite room in the house.

Iresboston, I made the draperies you asked about and if I remember correctly (it's been awhile) the rod was mounted to the wall just above the window moulding. The decorative metalwork you see was attached to the rod and to the wall and reached up to just under the crown moulding. Nothing was attached to the crown itself. Hope that helps!

Annabelle, find a fabricator that can make romans that are "reverse mounted" - that means that the fabric falls off the back of the board, right against the window, not a couple of inches away. The roman shade hardware will be in front of the shade but a small, simple valance about 5-7 inches high will cover the hardware and you won't have the issue you described of the light pouring in through the side edges.

alisongilb, how about using a swing arm rod like the one shown on restoration hardware's website, http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod3560020&navCount=1
. You can put a rod-pocket gathered curtain on this rod and have it open and close as needed. Then, so that it doesn't look dated, use a modern fabric with a contrast microcording on the side and bottom edges. The microcording makes it swing out just a bit and have some "body".

I agree with ciddyguy, if you use the tile because you love it, you'll find a way for it to look wonderful 10 to 15 years from now and to work with new window treatments or whatever.

I purchased two very ornate hooks from an antique shop and mounted them near my front door. My two favorite purses hang from the hooks and grabbing one on my way out the door is easy as is having them hang side by side so I can empty the contents of one into the other. I've used this method for a couple of years and it works great. Additionally, I also have a foyer table with a tray for keys and a large basket on the floor for shoes. Walking through the door, hanging up the purse, kicking the shoes into the basket, putting the keys onto the tray makes me feel organized. Now, if I could only organize the rest of my life....

How right you are that choosing a color palette can be overwhelming! I agree with Sarahjade that color designers can make the choices so much easier. Some people have that gift, I sure don't!

Ok, this memory is not of a cloud but it reminded me of the snow igloos my friends and I would make from the mounds of snow deposited on our sidewalk by snowplows. I'm trying to figure out what part of that cloud triggered that memory. It must be what it was like when we were sitting inside that mound of snow with the sun shining on it. Misty, thanks for the memory!
