Thank you for clearing that up! I've been so confused by seeing the wrong terms put with these patterns in the design world. (I was just looking at House Beautiful and they called a simple zig-zag painted on the wall 'Herring Bone')

A cheap brass cleaner: ketchup. Just tried it to humor myself and couldn't believe how I could actually SEE it working and it was shiny in no time!

The new change looks more like a step backwards then forward. Is a novice designing this? Usually you start with bland and add more personality, but this is just the opposite. I had to turn down the brightness of my monitor just to be able to continue! I miss having everything divided into 'interest' so I could get inspired by kids related items or head back to AT when I wanted some grown-up inspiration. All of the ReNest, Ohdeedoh, and Unplggd are now going to get lost and pushed out among all of the AT post. :(

I had a the hand-held version as a kid (and teenager) and it was probably the most played with toy (even as a teenager) and I bet the fun to be had with one as big as that would be ENDLESS!

Gorgeous! Why didn't I see this BEFORE I let my toddler go all crazy painting on the pumpkin!

Peanut butter jars would definitely be best! Just gave my little one a jar to start her own collection in as long as she never brought it into the kitchen. Daddy comes home through the kitchen, she runs to show him, and it immediately shatters. No more of that!

I just tried this, and it DID NOT come out pretty. Although it was well mixed, it just didn't coat consistently and now I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to scrap it off and try something else. u_u

How To Make Custom Color Chalkboard Paint

A combination of all the above suggestions! Paint the walls an awesome color to make the shelves pop, take the shelves and get them cut down at your Home Improvement store (or go to their glass/acrylic section and have them cut those into shelves) and then also put in your desk! I don't know where your outlets are though, so you would need one of those for your laptop/lamp. Then either cover it all with an awesome hung fabric or only hang it high enough to cover the desk area and leave your pretty display shelves showing!

Has anyone ever used chalk to hang pictures? I find that when hanging a large group, I just hold a picture on the wall, trace it, and then move on to the next (don't forget to cover anything on the back that would gouge the wall!). When I step back, I can see how the arrangement will 'look' on the wall, and erase and redraw the chalk lines until it looks right. Makes it easier to place a nail hole, too!

I LOVE this! I wonder how long the look really lasts with a garbage truck handling them at least once a week though?

My only worry is that young children will say, "Awesome looking Candy!" and then take a big bite! Otherwise I think unique crayons are spiffy :D

With all of the talk about being 'wasteful' and the need to re-use what we have, I think this ties in PERFECTLY. Rachel shows us that broken toys can have a place other then inside the trashcan and I think her thinking 'inside' the box is refreshing!

Thank you for this frightening yet educational post! With practically everything needed for a daily routine being plugged in, it is easy to forget how dangerous those cords really are. A great reminder for parents (and grandparents)!

Your use of patterns and color is absolutely amazing! That wall is a fantastic focal point for babies' developing eyesight! It's good to see another Abilenian on the site. :)
