They sure look nice, but biodegradable means nothing if you don't actually compost the tableware. In a landfill, organic materials must decompose without oxygen, which produces climate-warming methane.

At 1$ per piece, I would assume somebody could find a caterer who would rent reusable tableware. For instance: http://www.locationgmax.com/english/price_list.htm

Unless you only have 8 guests, in which case doing the dishes yourself seems reasonable...

DaVinciPainter you mean an alkyd-based enamel? Because there are latex "enamels" out there... and I was hoping to use zero-COV paint, which does not exist in alkyd (to the best of my knowledge).

Also, some people told me the white alkyd would turn yellow faster than latex paint. Has this been your experience?

I love the contrast between the matte wall and the shiny door in the first picture. Any tips on achieving this myself? Would it work with latex paint? I saw Behr's high-gloss paint at the Home Depot... has anybody ever tried it?

Anne, did you use glue for the fabric?

Anne, it seems the front drawers panels are "sticking out" a bit on the After picture. Did you put the fabric around the existing drawer front panel or did you affix another panel on the front of the drawer? I assume fabric would interfere with the opening and closing of the drawer...

And even though I agree a file cabinet is not the best thing to have in your living room, sometimes you just need the storage, and it does look more sophisticated in the After photo. Plus, when she bought it, it was probably rusty and chapped in the corners.
