I grew up in a small apartment in South America and am the oldest of three. I have a younger brother and a sister and I shared a bedroom with both of them until I was 18 years old. The bedroom was a place to sleep and thats it. If we wanted privacy we had the bathroom and sometimes we were lucky and the siblings stayed at grandma's. it was never a big deal and most of our friends shared bedrooms with their siblings, often times of the opposite sex. We are all successful adults and have no psychological trauma that I know of. The NYT opinion piece is elitist at best and ignores how a majority of the world lives.
