It's a horrible, terrible chair, not worth anything. Sell it to me. ;-) (Great find!)

My mom made a rhubarb pie every year and it was YUM!!! Never even heard of the strawberry pairing until much later. I'm very glad my mom was a purist. Actually, she was appalled that rhubarb had a "season" in the US. In her native Norway it was stewed as a dessert all summer long. The weather being cooler and drier than here, it was always available.

I second the post about White Mountain Yurts, in NH. They (owner Paul) has very high standards and works with his small crew to complete each and every yurt. He's always there on the job, assembling it on your site is included in the cost and he personally delivers the yurt to your site.
Paul has been fantastic to work with.
I'm the proud owner of the 30' Washington.

I like the way you stuck to your message without letting them take over. That was great! Okay, seeking advice. Best remedy for removing rust stains from tile and grout? We live way out in the country and have very high iron levels in our water. Turns washcloths brown and the toilet bowl orange.

I made your quiche and salad for dinner for 8 of us tonight and got rave reveiws on the quiche! I'll be sending out the recipe. As I was cooking for 7 gfs who I've cooked for before, I added an appetizer and soup...flatbreads with roasted red peppers, carmelized onions and goat cheese, and creamy curried cauliflower soup. For dessert we went with Martha's gingerbread snaking cake with a lemon curd topping. It turned into anything but a light meal but I thank you for the quiche and salad inspiration!

I'm taking a breather at the moment while preparing a dinner for seven girlfriends tonight. I just happen to be some recipes from The Kitchn and one really caught my eye, er, ear. While carmelizing onions, for instance, the recipes states to have the heat low enough to hear the onions gently steaming. I'd never heard onions gently steaming away before. The sounds have been going all day, the mixer while making the gingerbread, the whisk in the stainless steel bowl while mixing the wet quiche ingredients but mostly the timer and the radio tuned into a classical station. Later it'll be the sound of my girlfriends as they all arrive, one by one, fresh from work, pouring each other wine. They always want to bring something but I enjoy reminding them I find pure joy in cooking for them and the sound of their laughter filling my house is more than enough.

Yep, forms one large sprawling plant alright. You know what's coming next...the usual warning about it being just about THE most invasive plant you'll ever grow. Doesn't matter: sun, shade, dry, moist, wet...it takes over the world. It's great to grow mints, just be sure to give them their own round-shaped little plot that you can actually mow around to keep it under control. (Same goes for orange mint, lemon balm...a form of mint....etc.) Then bring on the mojitos!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE low wooden decks. Stone patios creep me out (they heave and get uneven quickly in our fussy NE winter conditions) as much as elevated decks do...they feel strange, having to climb stairs to get to the backyard...I just want to step off and be done with it. I've always loved the way they look, and feel...safe, accessible, convenient and I love the landscaping potential around them. I saw my ideal on a small Adirondack lake once, actually in a bit of a swamp at the end of the lake...it was probably a dock but was built to look like one of the above examples...for privacy they made perfect use of the natural elements by allowing the reeds to grow all around it. I was hooked forever...

"Crisp" parsley? It's only chewy in my book, BUT it gave me inspiration to crisp it in the over like I do when making kale chips. Either would be DEE-lish.

What, @ Hello Kitty? This room suits him perfectly with his own sense of design style. I wouldn't change a thing! The globes obviously provide somewhat of a screen from downstairs viewing. I LOVE the idea of being surrounded by those globes at night when they're all lit up. GREAT sleeping chamber, Thom!

Further, if you really hate something and need to cover over all reminders of what once was (for whatever reason, creating bad karma or whatever it might be) then get rid of all the reminders. The next owners may have the same taste. If not they can move on.

Good timing on this post. I have some questions for readers as I'm in the midst of amassing photos of my granddaughter's paintings for a little gallery. My plan is to Mod Podge them onto pre-stretched canvas so the texture shows through (I assume printing onto common printer paper would work best), then slather on the Mod Podge over top. Does anyone have experience with this? I'd rather do this than do it online with Canvas Pop, for instance...I want a bit more control and the fun of experimenting. Comments?

I'm feeling very old indeed right now.
I'm aware of all the OTHER ways of cooking bacon but never thought I'd read a post spelling out how to do it the real, old fashioned way.
Do love me that bacon smell in the house!
It goes away quicker if you put out a large bowl of vinegar for a couple hours.

I had a spare bedroom one time in a huge old farmhouse that I needed to make ready for a student tenant.
My girlfriend and I slathered plaster on many cracks and did some fun mixed shades of yellow, making it look like what she called "French country chic." It ended up looking somewhat glazed with darker shades toward the corners.
I loved it and so did the tenant.
It saved me a lot of bucks and the creativity was fun.
I think there are places where this works really well.

Perhaps I've mellowed over the years enough to give it a go again...earlier eras found me way too impatient with the cleaning process. I switched to using a microplane and will probably stick with it now. No fuss, just a quick rinse under the tap and a hit with the dish brush and that's it. All the good garlic juices are in the pot plus I like the way it disappears into the food, even when fresh.
All said, I DO admire your affection (and patience) for it!

After my mom passed away and I was going through her/their things (dad went first) I found little quotes my mother had written down on little bits of paper over the years, tucked into drawers, pockets of handbags and her little fanny pack. They were ages old and some of them were quite ratty. I've saved them all. This has inspired me to think about using one of them in this way as a reminder of the inspirational person she was, creating a way for her generous and kind influences to be carried forward.
