@upndown, with mementos I often first factor in how much space something takes up. That's an objective way to consider how much you want to keep it. Also, usually if I've kept an item for this long (vs. clutter that just hasn't been sorted through), it has some meaning for me. But over time some mementos become less meaningful and some become more meaningful/insightful. I remember I saved a small candle from my high school senior banquet during all my college years, as I just enjoyed little items like that. When I was preparing to move out of my childhood home, I no longer found any purpose in keeping it. So I tossed it. For some items, I first took a digital photo for nostalgia's sake before throwing it away.
