The British (or maybe just the English ) believe that you can tell a person's class by what they call the loo!
(I don't usually use the word 'loo' - I'm just pretending that I'm upper class......)

Leslie, how old are your students? Is that a picture of your classroom at the moment ? I don't know much about secondary (high?) schools, so forgive me if I've been talking about a primary school classroom when you work with older kids...
All rooms look better with a local and world map, and maybe a globe...

Leslie, it's all about showcasing the kids! Get as much of their work up there as you possibly can - not just on boards, but pegged up on 'washing lines' strung across the room, hanging 'mobile' style from ceiling lights, taped to windows ...have a 'wonder-wall board' at child level, where they can write out and pin up any questions they have. Make sure that the reading corner is inviting, with some comfortable cushions. The classroom is one room that should always look like a work in progress....

Unlike everyone else who has expressed an opinion on it, I don't have a problem with people putting wet (not soiled, of course!) TP in my bin, rather than flushing it. In fact, I feel that they should be admired for their concern for the world's oceans!

Don't have an answer to the cat peeing on the couch, but I'm sure I've heard friends talk about having their cats fitted (treated?) with gel nails that stop them damaging furniture.

H5N1 people!
I live in Asia, where children run away, shouting a warning, at the sight of feathers...
(I'm not saying it's right, but I have a real problem now with feathers as decoration!)

Thirty years ago, as an ex-pat in Hong Kong, I tried to have a typical at-home birthday party for my son.
Invitations were sent to his local school friends, complete with little cards for RSVPs - no-one replied, so no idea who was going to turn up.
On the day, every child arrived with at least one adult who expected to stay for the duration of the party. The only child to arrive without either mum, granny or maid, arrived with an older brother and toddler sister, and they weren't picked up until four hours after everyone else had gone home (parents had gone out for dinner, and just assumed that we'd be happy to baby-sit.)
The following year, we had a McDonalds party, just like everybody else!
