Planter idea was actually not mine (god bless pinterest! :) ) I just modified it a bit by using tension rods instead of something permanently mounted, since walls in our almost hundred year old building are quite tough to drill. So it is this tension rod (the shortest): http://www.target.com/p/room-essentials-tension-rod-white/-/A-11098557# and these containers: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10271091/
Whole thing was a bit over $10 for 8 planters. Then I just planted seeds, covered containers with plastic till springs show up, then removed plastic and watered regularly.

I turned them inwards for the picture taking, but they face outside most of the time to get enough light.

Thank you for all the comments! It is very inspirational. I have a couple of other gardening projects lined up after visiting a yard sale today :)

Thank you. I agree there is some space to fill, and the place still feels big to me. It is actually more sq footage than we need/use. I will have to fight my minimalist husband on getting it filled for sure! If it were entirely up to him we would probably live with one third of the present furniture :)

All, thanks for your opinions, it's great to read the reactions. And we did expect ikea comments submitting our place, well it is indeed full of things from our favorite store. I have to say it's not been too bad :) rajaune, thank you for stepping in!

cakehands, those are bygel containers from ikea that I've put on tension rods and use as my herb garden. These pictures are from a couple of months ago and by now there is some bushy basil in there, despite the fact our winter has literally just ended!

Great tips, I've implemented many of them in my kitchen. Need to look up that reliable magnet hook, as I had to put mine on top of the fridge, it was so weak!

Duvet cover + down comforter only. I really tried flat sheet approach after moving from Europe to the US but it didn't work out. After one night the sheet would be so wrinkled, I had to change bedding every other night since I hate when it's wrinkled (even if it is just a fold over a blanket). And I absolutely want to avoid touching something that is not washed weekly (comforter or blanked) with my body. Unfortunately not possible with a top sheet - it always gets somewhere towards the end of the bed by the morning. Yuck!

We had to move unexpectedly week 1 of the Cure, and it was the best thing that could possibly happen. Now, 3 weeks later, our 1br looks like we've lived here way longer. It's all furnished, organized, decorated, photos hung. We would have never put our new place together in this record time without the Cure.
The only task I skipped was media fast. Need to catch up on that one this weekend! We had our gathering yesterday, which was an "official" house-warming party with good friends, a lot of appetizers and some good wine. I cannot be happier! Thank you AT for the Cure! And I will keep bringing flowers home every Friday :)

This cart is probably my favorite ikea product. Mine is in the living room, displays some greenery. I've also seen it being used as a base for herb garden.

Love-love-love! I've been reading AT for 5 years and registered today to comment on this HT! Having lived in 300 sq ft for most of my adult life I appreciate the constraints small spaces impose, and I just adore the creativity they spark. Couple it with budget conciousness and no-paint rule and here is the gem of all house tours. So wonderful! Thanks for sharing, Evan and AT!
