Too rustic. And the zinc/tin siding with all those different colored wood reminded me immediately of the slums. I understand choosing to live small but it could LOOK a lot nicer and BE a lot safer (the metal on the stairs scare the crap out of me too).

YES! I don't do it now, but in the past when I've wanted a bed that looks like it was made by someone in the military (I mean this in the BEST way possible), I use the flat/top sheet to make the bed instead of the fitted sheet. That way you have 100% smoothness all over. Can never quite get the fitted sheet to fit right, unless it's not as deep as the mattress.

Also, does no one say "SPREAD the bed" instead of "MAKE the bed"? In Jamaica we said spread, but then I moved to America and no one understood me :(

I believe I've seen individual sheets (flat or fitted) at Walmart. But that was ages ago so you might want to check...

I just moved into my very first place two and a half weeks ago! So far, no regrets. I am ecstatic about two things: 1) keeping my huge queen sized bed (I live in a studio). Friends had tried to convince me to downsize; so glad I didn't listen. I love that thing too much and will gladly work EVERYTHING else around it. 2) not accepting any hand-me-downs. I have an idea of what I want my place to look like, and even though I'm anxious to be done decorating, I refuse to settle for free or cheap if it doesn't fit into my abstract plan.

Maybe a year from now I'll know what I could have done differently. But for now, not even a twinge of buyer's (renter's) remorse.
