I started doing this too and I love it. I'm finding I can now use the light outside as a pretty spot on clock and I have found myself waking up naturally before my alarm goes off on most mornings. I am still guilty of bringing the phone back to bed after I turn my alarm off and before I get up completely, but it's baby steps.

I love this! We're inheriting a couch soon and I have some plans of reupholstering it in blue velvet, but I might lean more towards the turquoise side of the spectrum now.

I picked the pug, but I own both a pit and a pug. Does that mean I just chose a favorite child? He is the first born...

I've been wanting one of these rugs forever and I finally think my dogs are reaching the age that they will no longer attack the rug. We've had problems with furry things in the past.

This would be a great way to dip my toes in the water without spending a ton on something that could potentially be destroyed.

I have two dogs, one pug and one pit mix, and we live in a studio apartment in Brooklyn. We figured they're in whatever room we are in anyways so the size of the apartment doesn't really make much of a difference. Prior to living in Brooklyn, we lived in Los Angeles in a house with a yard and to be honest, we were way less disciplined about actively exercising them because we just let the yard take care of that. They're much happier and healthier now that we live in an apartment and take them on twice daily long walks and trips to the dog park on the weekends. I also run the big dog several times a week which has dramatically reduced the amount of times he gets the "crazies". The only issue we have with our current apartment is the lack of space for a couch that would also serve as a dog bed. One bed + two dogs = no room for the humans.

My boyfriend has been keeping his phone in the kitchen for the past six month and I am his alarm clock so he constantly gives me a hard time for being on my phone in bed. I embarrassingly sleep with my phone underneath my pillow. I tell myself it's so I can turn my alarms (3 within 15 minute increments) off without disturbing him, but to be honest it's so I can go through my various apps before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning when I wake up. If I had to get up and walk across the room to turn my alarm off this would force me to wake up to one alarm and put me on a more regular schedule AND get me off the phone before and after bed. I'm going to try this starting next Monday and see how it goes throughout the week.

Even though I did not complete every task, I am super proud of everything that I accomplished thus far with the cure. I think just having a running list of goals and ideas for my home written down makes me feel better about continuing with this process throughout the year.

I've done a pretty good job at paring down my skincare and hair gunk stash in the past few months, but my makeup and nail polish (ugh) could use a good purge.

What about placing some sort of decorative element in front of the bulk of the cords, like a plant or run the cords through some sort of a box that matches the the wall color so it blends in and is less noticeable?

This was on my list I made at the beginning of the cure. The area under our desk is the only area we haven't been able to successfully minimize the visibility of the cords. I'd love to be proactive and grab some cord management things on my way home, but we're in the middle of a blizzard here and I'm still riding off the glow of completely reorganizing THE TROUBLE SPOT in our living room over the long weekend. My boyfriend legitimately asked me where all of our stuff went. Success!

I'm not done yet, BUT I finally got my boyfriend to hang a print in our bathroom and now we've got the itch to hang things up all over the place. This is huge. We just moved into our place 5 months ago and here and every where else we have lived we always talk about what we're going to hang on the walls (he's an artist) and it just doesn't happen. We're finally inching towards completing our big project of hanging a gallery wall above our credenza. I have the day off tomorrow so I'm going to enjoy leisurely going through the folded parts of my wardrobe and finishing up the deep clean of my bedroom.

Weekend Chores: Flowers, Bedroom Cleaning & Wardrobe Organizing The January Cure: Assignment # 12
1/19/14 10:26 PM

I live in a studio so my living room is essentially my bedroom. Nonetheless, I'll focus on the area of the room that is "bedroom". Although I recently purged my clothing, our closet is extremely deep and creates a nice storage cave that isn't easily accessible. In the 5 months we have lived in our place have already started throwing things back there as a way of (not) dealing with them. I'll be spending my weekend dragging things out of there and finding a more accessible way of storing our items. As for my flowers, last week's are still going strong, but I'm loving having fresh flowers on our kitchen table so much I might just buy some more to put by on our nightstand as well.

My two projects were to hang art above our credenza and to replace the heinous light fixture in our kitchen. I decided to loop the art hanging project into the hanging day on the 28th.

I'm feeling slightly guilty about not making a decision about the light fixture. While I might not finish this particular project this weekend, this does give me the push to narrow down our options so that my boyfriend and I can make a final decision and order the sucker. Once we have the fixture, we'll be eager to hang it so it doesn't take up precious space in our studio apartment. I will have that thing ordered by the end of this weekend!
