Beautiful house Congletons! Thanks for sharing your lovely cozy home. That window adds some friendly gothic style, and the basement is sweet.

I have a similar problem too, and I'd agree with posters who suggest getting a different table - something airier and lighter, with a lamp on top instead of the standing lamp because it looks cluttered.
I'd also consider painting the door a different color. Myself, I like vibrant colors - but whatever your taste really - just to give the entry more energy and contrast. A color that will set the stage for going out into the world.

I like the uncontrived feeling of this space. It's something to strive for because I find it too easy to overthink the decor.

Does anyone know where to find the yellow hanging light in the first image?

I have two small kids, and the 7 year old loves going to buy a fresh tree each year - he has his heart set on it! But, this year, I don't want to buy a cut tree, and I don't want to deal with the fake trees either, seems wasteful. Also, my living room is super small and does not have a lot of natural light - the big tree actually darkens the room and looks kind of depressing to me.

I've seen some Swedish Christmas decor where there are simple branches with subtle ornaments on them made of natural materials.

Now I only need to get my 7 year old on board without breaking his heart! I hope that this year will usher in a new Christmas tradition without a real tree, and that each year we'll come up with new creative ideas for xmas "trees"!

Peace

The house looks amazing and I really like the colors you are gravitating towards, but maybe the orange walls could go off-white, with accents of the lovely orangey hue you love.

I love this palette: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/anna-gabriels-padhouse-tour-100890 - although the walls might be too peachy for your sofa??

I could see you painting the walls a warm off-white, and then using some color on the sofa with vibrant pillows and blankets, and some things on the coffee table. Then maybe some really vibrant colors in the artwork above the sofa.
The brown trim is really pretty with the black and the sofa, maybe use a little more brown too!
