Why no art above the bed?

Apartment Therapy New York | The Spring Cure: Sacred Space Week 7 - Intro
4/29/09 11:47 AM

My work on the Cure this time around has been piecemeal, and definitely not on schedule! I'm hoping to post some pics this week and next.

This is what I've done so far (a few things are pre-cure, but I'll count them anyway):

- installed custom closets in hall closet and other closet; involved purging stuff in both
- installed Elfa desk in small dressing room area
- got rid of old Ikea desk in bedroom
- bought chair for new reading nook in bedroom
- installed wall unit in entryway
- removed old "dining" table and coffee table
- moved TV to opposite wall
- ordered new dining table and TV unit
- framed art; waiting for final furniture placement to hang
- bought new lamps and new bedding

Stay tuned!

This is seriously the best recipe in the world. I made an apple pie with it this weekend and the crust was perfect. I will note that I used all butter instead of butter/shortening. Perhaps that's why it was so damn good?

I'm a little behind due to travel, but I've got some buyers for my two large Craigslist items this weekend -- my old TV and huge desk. After that happens, I'll have more space to move things around to decide where to put them. I plan on hanging a few pictures this weekend as well and if I have time, swap out my summer clothes -- it's getting cold in here. Other than that, I just want to make a list of mini-projects, like getting art framed and making a floorplan and furniture budget.

Major major major declutter. And make some final decisions about re-arranging furniture -- decor will fall into place after that. I painted during the spring cure, but the walls have been sadly empty since, just "waiting" for me to do some work on re-arranging.

My only issue is that I've got a hunk of travel coming up during the cure . . . worried that it'll hold me back.

I'd say I'm in the "will be done" category. Everyone has been great, but especially Alana in Canada and suziegoombs. I'm once again out of town, which means no more progress this week, but I've got a picture or two of last week's flowers.

I did everything so out of order that I had people over a few weeks back! (It went really well, but it took me three days to do all the dishes). I was in London last week and headed to Minneapolis next week with a jam-packed week in between, so I doubt I'll make much progress, I'm afraid. Still keeping up with the flowers when I'm in town, though!!

Sigh. I had a crazy week -- I had a dinner party last Sunday and it literally took me all week to finish the dishes. The weekend was a whirlwind of social events, so not much progress, and I'm off to London tonight. I might need an extension!!

Thanks, Lizzy! My only complaint is that it's sort of a brushed nickel (or something) and everything else is a high polish chrome. I'll chalk it up to impatience and awkward space constraints -- the other one I got didn't fit.

Well, I'm certainly in good shape on the bathroom front with a new light fixture, shelf, and towel bar (and of course the obligatory flower). I cooked a big feast for some friends on Sunday night, but not much else during the week. I didn't make much other progress, I'm afraid. It's tough to get much done during the week, so I've found it imperative to carve out time on the weekends to make progress.

My comment was supposed to say "My enormous TV cabinet went off to its new home, leaving me with all of its contents to sort through. I think I'll be able to purge about half or at least put some into storage or find new places for it to go. Until I sell the old TV (shown perched on a temporary stand), I'm in a bit of living room limbo."

I really shouldn't attempt to deal with HTML before coffee.

Not much progress this week, I'm afraid, although I've kept up with the flowers (not sure why I love having them in the bathroom so much). I have sent an email to the painter to come back and touch up a few things -- nothing major, but hopefully that'll happen soon. My old TV (shown perched on a temporary stand), I'm in a bit of living room limbo. Plan is to buy a smaller flat screen and put it on an existing piece of furniture. I can't wait to get all that space back!

Given that it was technically home office week, I'm a bit behind, but, I'm here this weekend and plan to get a lot done!

As Maxwell mentioned, I was off in Maine this weekend, so no progress to report. Nice work to all!

This week is crazy with work events and such, so in addition to saying goodbye to my old TV and huge cabinet, my goals are to:

- research new smaller tv
- "stage" my desk to photograph and sell on Craig's list
- file a huge stack of paperwork
- make a dent in doing a springtime clothing purge
- measure windows for potential window treatments

I already tackled the cord monster a few weeks back, but will likely have to do it again when I move my "office" out of my bedroom and into the "dressing room," but first, need to sell the old desk and buy the new Elfa unit that will be the new desk.

No pictures this week, I'm afraid, as not much has changed since the weekend. I'm warming up to the lime green bathroom/striped shower combo you've pictured -- so much so that I think I'm going to return the (boring) plain white one I ordered. Am also considering hanging some simple prints to highlight some of the other colors in the stripes, like hot pink and orange. Why not?

As for the living room, I got a headstart clearing my books before the painting started, and I definitely cleared out at least 25%. My enormous TV and TV cabinet are going to their new homes next week thanks to Craigslist, and part of that process will be cleaning out the CD's/DVD's on Sunday night. I sense a full outbox on Monday! After that, I'll be rearranging furniture. That will determine next steps for the living/dining area.

Haven't been cooking dinners, but have been eating leftovers from Sunday night, and making my lunch each day to take to work (does that count?). Still going strong with the flowers.

Am enjoying my new landing strip and am happy to report that I've been using it! I'm off to the wilds of Maine for the weekend, but am sending energy to my fellow Cure-ers!

Apartment Therapy New York | NY Spring Cure: Week Four - Living Room

The painting is done -- hooray!!!! I was thrilled to have my couch back. Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome, although still a little skeptical about the lime green bathroom. It's certainly lively! Finally -- my home is now filled with color. The pale brown in the entryway and living room warms the place up so much and the green in my room is just what I wanted. Still very much in love with my last minute choice to paint the kitchen walls red.

The apartment has been cleaned and I am slowly and steadily working on little home improvement projects for this week's cure. I'm going out of order, but very happy with my progress so far. Since the painting has finished, I've built myself a landing strip on the inside of the front door, bought some flowers, hung up hooks in the bathroom, changed knobs on the bathroom cabinet to match the hooks, the shelf and the towel bar (not up yet). I bought a new shower caddy, some mini organizers for the medicine cabinet, a shelf for my pantry, a sliding drawer for under the sink, and I made an attempt to manage the cord monster behind the desk. Here are the pictures. Finished off the weekend by cooking a nice pasta with seared scallops, peas, and truffle butter. Now, off to pass out.
